“McReynolds is as versatile as he is prolific.” – Buzzbands LA

Los Angeles-based musician Faris McReynolds has released four full-length albums in 2012. An internationally renowned painter, in 2012 McReynolds returned to the music making that began years before when he found himself touring in a punk band as a teenager.

His two musical projects – ExDetectives and One Finger Riot – cranked out two albums a piece this year.  The latest singles available for download now are the title tracks from the new ExDetectives album Farthest Star and One Finger Riot’s Fly By Life.

‘Fly By Life’ is about everything in life passing by, and wanting to ground myself to something or someone to make it slow down a little,” says McReynolds of the track.  “But, it’s also just something to dance to. There’s a lot of Fantasma-era Cornelius in that one.”

Of “Farthest Star,” McReynolds explains, “It’s about wanting something or someone that feels impossibly far away. I wrote that song several years ago when I was obsessed with Scott Walker and feeling a connection to a lot of his lyrics, especially ‘On Your Own Again’ from his Scott 4 album.”

“Growing up in both Texas and India is probably why I have two musical projects that are so different,” McReynolds says about his dual musical personas. “I’ve been exposed to so much through the culture that I’ve experienced travelling the world with my art. It’s given me so much that I want to explore musically and it doesn’t all fit into one box.”

McReynolds doesn’t regret the time he’s spent away from painting in order to make this music.  “All of the time that I spent, unable to invest in music because of painting, is mine again,” he exclaims. “I’m much happier being able to make music, even if it costs me support in the art world.”

Farthest Star by ExDetectives and Fly By Life by One Finger Riot are both available now via the Los Angeles-based Post Planetary label.  Faris McReynolds is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
