“Santa’s Disco” is the latest video from “Destination… Christmas!” by The Superions

Destination... Christmas!, the hilarious holiday album by The Superions (featuring the unmistakable lyrics and vocals of The B-52s front man, Fred Schneider), hits stores around the world today. The album defines the modern Christmas classic with a traditional twist. “It’s hard to say who our musical influences for this project were, because we don’t want to get sued,” says Fred.

And if you loved the band’s video for the single “Fruitcake,” you’ll chuckle with delight over the shenanigans in the clip for the album’s lead track, “Santa’s Disco” debuting today! This latest video from Destination… Christmas! is the intersection of “A Christmas Story” and “Disco Bloodbath” as everyone parties down on Christmas Eve and contends with a few uninvited guests.  Watch “Santa’s Disco” HERE and listen to a stream of Destination… Christmas! at Spinner.com right HERE.

If you just can’t get enough of The Superions’ holiday spirit, Fred Schneider will be available to chat on Thursday, October 28th about all of the topics that perfectly capture the many moods of the season: despair, avalanches, deranged abominable snowmen, leaden fruitcakes, and of course, laughter. Contact Josh at Fanatic to set up a chat with Fred!

“Band In The Modern World” is a documentary by TV Buddhas about a band (TV Buddhas) starting from the bottom in the contemporary underground music scene in the USA. Unlike the usual band-on-tour movies showing the band in a positive, cool sort of way, here we see a band struggling, loosing money, and arriving to shows where the promoter forgot about the show, where there was no audience because there was no promotion or no one cared.

The band goes around the United States, sharing the highs and lows of a DIY booked tour in 2010. During the winter of 2011, this vlog will be expanded into a feature film that will travel across Europe and the US in small theaters and festivals.  The movie will show how the underground scene in the US has become an oversaturated and impersonal place, through the experiences of a contemporary DIY touring band, sharing its ups and downs, its hopes and dreams, its road mis-adventures all across America.  The documentary is full of songs written throughout the tour, punk rock songs of alienation, desperation, and the death of small things in rock and roll.

More about TV Buddhas

TV Buddhas’ self-titled debut EP was recorded in Berlin in one hour using one mic and a basic tape machine in an attempt to make a spontaneous recording with almost no prior preparations. The band was seeking a way to achieve something raw, not by work on the mix, but rather by just going in and rushing the job. The result is a short record that is oozing with late seventies punk sensitivities and a lo-fi sound that is both gritty and powerful.

The EP was written out of the angst and pressure of being on tour year round. Consisting of brother and sister Uri and Mickey Triest, and Mickey’s husband Juval Haring, TV Buddhas has been playing 200 shows a year since they relocated from their home of Tel Aviv, Israel to Berlin, Germany in 2007. On constant tour, the band’s everyday life got lost and their privacy was invaded by the “cool” people they had avoided contact with through their teen years.

Not having any kind of domestic existence or place to call sanctuary, TV Buddhas turned to their music and put their frustration into words. They wrote about being too tired to face a show, too tired to go out during the very few times they were home, feeling awkward walking down the street in hip neighborhoods, not feeling at home or fitting anywhere besides their own heads, and feeling completely out of their element around other rock n’ roll bands.

The result of this is a unique punk rock record reflecting the image of a band of outsiders making a dirty sound that is honest, primal and full of feelings of impatience and alienation. The EP echoes the kind of discontentment typical of bands like The Wipers and a straightforward quality reminiscent of The Modern Lovers.

The song “Fun Girls” sung by the band’s drummer, Mickey Triest, is almost like a monologue, a testimonial of a private world, threatened by a vulgar mass of Polaroid glory girls. The EP’s cover is also worth mentioning, quoting the style of Raymond Pettibon, and the attitude of Black Flag, whose touring style and ethics have influenced bands worldwide, even reaching three disgruntled record shop workers in Israel who were just looking for a reason to quit their jobs and do something real.

See below for a complete list of US dates.  Members of TV Buddhas are available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom for more info.

More About The Tins

“The track is a beautiful, slow building, seven minute melody based jam that the most seasoned of bands probably wish they would have come up with.” – Baeble Music

Buffalo, New York-based band The Tins has completed the video for its much-loved song “The Green Room”. The clip is a charming, lo-fi affair depicting God as a clerk in an English mini-mart (you can’t miss the trademark Heinz Beanz). Turns out that even the Almighty’s existence is pretty mundane and fraught with difficult choices that don’t always produce the most desirable results!

The Tins recently released its self-titled five-track debut EP via V2 Benelux, the arm of the influential label based in the Netherlands. It might be out of the ordinary to be discovered by a major label so far from home, but the situation has turned out well so far for the band who will perform twice at next week’s CMJ festival.

“The Green Room,” (MP3) the first single from the Tins EP, has already gained the attention of the UK (and possibly the world’s) most influential music publication, the NME which called the track “extraordinarily moving”. The song is a seven-minute mini-epic that perfectly spotlights the cross section of Radiohead and Wilco that The Tins mine. Fans of pioneering artists such as Yo La Tengo and The Flaming Lips will find much to like about The Tins as well.

The band is now beginning to make its presence known in the states. The energetic stage show put on by Mike Santillo (keyboards, vocals), Adam Putzer (guitar, vocals), and Dave Muntner (drums) shows off the great chemistry these guys have with one another and is also reflected in their collaborative songwriting, multi-instrumentalism and the shared lead vocals of Santillo and Putzer.

The Tins are available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

The Tins In The Press

“This song off the band’s upcoming debut EP kicks off with a modern-day ‘Twilight Zone’ vibe that morphs into an extraordinarily moving seven-minute-long serenade. Hopefully this is a good indication of what the rest of the EP will have to offer.” – NME (UK) on “The Green Room” by The Tins

“Every so often music fans come across a young band that is far from amateur. They dazzle you from the start and make you wonder how they are not bigger. This is how I feel about a fantastic band from Buffalo, NY called The Tins.” – We All Want Someone To Shout For

The Tins are bloody fantastic! A three piece out of Buffalo who might just have wandered into our new favourite band category with ease.” – The Recommender (UK)

“That song, ‘The Green Room,’ doesn’t proceed into the room as if it’s embarrassed to be there, shyly introducing itself and then heading straight for the bar. Rather, it makes the sort of grand entrance that only the most self-aware can pull off...” – The Buffalo News
