Drivel”

“I realize Sparks
beat me to the punch, but I still wanted to write a sexy song about books,”
explains Alex Lilly about “Pure Drivel,” her latest single, out now.
“I was in a book club over the pandemic,” she says.”
We read some DH Lawrence — an author
who’s been banned in the past. It was an interesting club as we mostly drank
and smoked and never finished a single book — I’m not proud of this fact! “But
it was a break from boredom and Beck
read us the first chapter of ‘Moby Dick.’”
The choreographed video for the song, filmed in and
around a Berlin library, debuts today.
Lilly explains, “Germans take privacy seriously and they
are quite strict about filming in public places. It was a rare feat that this
wonderful library allowed us to bring a choreographed dance routine.
“A book is a funny object to dance with, but
(director) Sebastian Abarnell’s choreography is perfect. We had a lot of fun
together dancing, singing, and climbing trees. And reading!”
“Pure Drivel” is taken from Repetition Is A Sin, the follow-up
to Lilly’s much-acclaimed 2019 debut
album 2% Milk. The full album arrives on Oct. 21 via Release Me Records, the boutique label owned and run by songwriter
and vocalist, Inara George.
“I was falling out of love and wrestling more with
life,” Lilly says of the 2%
Milk songs. Repetition Is A Sin has caught me on an upward love trajectory.”
