Steel Cranes continues to split eardrums on US tour in support of Ouroboros debut. See the latest music video now via Roxwel.

Oakland-based duo’s ‘Drowning In The Bathtub’ clip is “pretty much a pop song about depression,” according to the band.

The latest video by Oakland-based duo Steel Cranes is a lighthearted viewpoint on an otherwise emotionally heavy tune. Tracy Shapiro, the singing and guitar-playing half of the group explains, “It’s pretty much a pop song about depression. I wrote ‘Drowning In The Bathtub’ after spending a lazy afternoon on the porch of a friend. He had just been left by the woman he loved deeply, and I had such a heavy feeling of uselessness when he began to open up about his feelings of devastation about it.”

“The video takes those ideas, but brings some humor to the fact that it’s pretty easy to pretend everything’s okay when it’s not,” explains drummer Amanda Schukle. The duo handled the production of the clip themselves, including the photography, editing, and choreography which can be seen via an exclusive premiere via Roxwel.  “We even handled the mint chocolate chip ice cream eating,” jokes Schukle. “We briefly thought about having body doubles actually consume the ice cream because, as professional rock stars, we obviously only consume whiskey and cigarettes.”

The debut Steel Cranes album Ouroboros is out now. Produced by the band and engineered by Eli Crews (tUnE-yArDs, Deerhoof), the record captures raw energy in a way that is rarely heard on records these days.  As Shapiro explains, “It was essential to us that the tension that comes with our live performance be present on the album.”

MTV Buzzworthy recently described the Steel Cranes sound as “the slo-mo heaviness of a 2,000-pound pendulum” with “as much grit as an abandoned highway, and a fearless sense of rock ‘n’ roll.”  Ouroboros is streaming in full via the band’s hometown blog The Bay Bridged now and Steel Cranes is currently wrapping up a nationwide tour in support of the record (see below for remaining dates.)
