short of stellar.” – Nylon Guys
“Vision-like recollections are the core of my
perception,” Andrew St. James says
of the inspiration for “Visions,”
the latest track from his debut album Doldrums, out now. “I wrote it at a party in the Mission late
last year. I have a funny little recording of it on my phone from that
night. You can hear the party wailing in
the background and a terribly out of tune piano. I freestyled the lyrics, but
most of them ended up on the album anyway.”
For “Visions”
video, St. James and producer Jim Greer “decided to roll to downtown
Oakland for some quality fooling around,” according to the singer. “We brought
along a Wurlitzer for some photos and set it down at a picnic table in the
park.” Fooling around turned into filming and the snippets of the lighthearted
day became the basis for the piece.
Incorporating a beyond-his-years lyrical vision with a
unique gift for melody-making on Doldrums, 18-year-old St. James is emerging from the
fog-enshrouded misty hills of San Francisco’s Twin Peaks. His music lands firmly in the alternative
folk world, but displays a real knack for timeless songwriting skills.
Produced by St.
James himself along with veteran Bay Area producer Jim Greer (a platinum record recipient for his work with Foster The People), Doldrums
is out now via the Island Jar/Fortune label. To date, Doldrums
has received notice from USA
Today, Interview
Magazine, San
Francisco Weekly, MTV
Hive, Performer
Magazine and Nylon Guys,
among many others. St. James will
makie his NYC club debut at Rockwood Music Hall on Fri., Nov. 22nd with an

is currently streaming in full via American
