NYC-based singer-songwriter David Bronson continues to add visuals to his Story album with the
release of the record’s sixth video. “I
knew I wanted to work with Johnerick
as soon as I met him,” Bronson says
of artist and animator, Johnerick Lawson
(http://johnerick.com) and Lawson’s video for Bronson’s song “Outside,”
which has premiered via Baeble Music
here.
Johnerick’s
work, an innovative mixture of 2-D and 3-D animation techniques, has an aspect
of “inner-ness,” according to Bronson,
that suited the songs themes of personal reflection.
For the clip, Bronson
provided Johnerick with some rough
notes and general visual motifs from the album. “I was very much hoping he
would just interpret, and kind of run free with it. I’m really thankful for how much effort he
put into it, and what an amazing piece of art it is. ‘Outside’ is very hopeful,” Bronson
says. “At the bottom of it, it’s a
fundamental statement about being OK.”
“Outside” appears on Bronson’s
latest album Story, one half of a two-album cycle of personal songs that
brings to mind the 70’s heyday of artists such as Cat Stevens. The
Long Lost, the follow-up to Story is currently being completed
with producer Godfrey Diamond who
has previously worked with Lou Reed,
Sparks, and Glen Campbell among others.
The album is scheduled for release on September 10th, 2013
and Bronson will celebrate with a
record release show at Brooklyn Bowl
on September 21st. Tickets
for the event (opening for Addison
Groove Project) are available here. Everyone in attendance will receive a free
copy of The Long Lost.
In addition to his solo work, Bronson also composes instrumental, ambient soundscapes for
filmmaker Jennifer Elster’s “In The Woods,” which is the first
installment of Elster’s film series
entitled “The Being Experience.” The
project is an unflinching look at existence, featuring a cast of actors,
thinkers, and musicians including Dave
Matthews, Moby, Questlove, Rufus Wainwright, and Yoko
Ono among many others.
