“Johnny” is the latest single from the debut album In My
Lane by Austin-based soul singer, Candace
Bellamy. “Johnny is the guy from your neighborhood with all kinds of
potential and promise,” Bellamy says
of the song’s title character. “He falls in with the wrong crowd, he's headed
for a bad ending, and he's also influencing the people around him with his bad
decisions.”
The track is a co-write between Bellamy, Ruth Carter
(composer for Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Palmer, and John Mayall), and legendary bassist Jimi Calhoun (player with Dr.
John, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Wilson Pickett, and Sly

A physician for the military, Candace Bellamy took up singing a decade ago, paying dues in cover
bands, musical theater, and a one-woman show where, in between tunes, she told
stories of her dual life of music and military service. Bellamy’s path led her to songwriters Carter, Calhoun, and Jake Langley (Roberta Flack, Willie Nelson,
k.d. lang), who mentored her, and
became her co-writers.
Bellamy will appear live to perform songs from In My
Lane on Austin’s community radio station KOOP this Wednesday evening, May 15th, at 8PM EST / 7PM
CST. Listeners can tune in at http://www.koop.org. She will also perform a record release show
at Austin’s Driskill Hotel the
following evening, Thursday, May 16th, at 7PM CST.
