“I was living with rappers and electronic music producers which eventually led to an expansion in my sonic development,” says McKinney, Texas native Juno Uno about the genesis of “Sides,” his new single (and a jam to last the summer) that has been steadily drawing attention to his pulsing, dreamy sound, and also to the burgeoning music scene of his hometown.
 
Uno – now 21-years-old – began writing songs in his teens by exploring sounds on an acoustic guitar, but then quickly expanded to other instruments, finding his natural voice and means of expression through electric guitar and different synths.
 
A brief move to Austin led him to explore these sound palettes even more, and it was there that he began writing profusely, expanding his musical vision through experimentation, and focusing his energy inwards to discover the countless realms of his own creative mind.

“Musically, I was inspired by the drum sounds of Toro y Moi’s album Boo Boo, while also drawing inspiration from the synths of Tame Impala’s album Currents,” he says.
 
Uno was also inspired in creating “Sides” by his own emerging trust and confidence in himself, explaining, “I learned about a balance between trusting the flow of the universe while trusting my own confidence in my creative process.”
 
After leaving Austin to travel the country, Uno was further inspired by spiritual growth and mysticism, and after returning home to McKinney, he built a studio, committing all of his time to writing and recording a style of his own design.
 
The musically inventive atmosphere, mixed with raw and organic positive sonic exploration, is the blueprint of “Sides,” which is additionally inspired by the poetic words of 1960s lyricism and the original truths of 1980s synth-pop.
 
Adding sonic touches to “Sides” are producer and musician extraordinaire, John Dufhilo of The Deathray Davies, who mixed the tune, along with Drummer Jeff Ryan (credits with St. Vincent, The War On Drugs, Sarah Jaffe, and many more.)
