What band’s name describes its sound? Metallica? Little Shrine does, too.

Little Shrine is the folk songwriting project of San Francisco-based musician, Jade Shipman (on vocals and bass), along with guitarist Tony Schoenberg, and violinist Ryan Avery.

The group's debut “Wilderness” arrives on Oct. 20^th, and represents a pretty radical musical departure for Shipman who is typically seen around the Bay area performing in several groups that she describes as “rock bands with distorted guitars.”

The songs on “Wilderness” were truly unexpected. Hear the first single “Stone,” recently premiered by music discovery website Independent Clauses here.

“This project came from something else, I guess from some tender, raw part of myself that I’ve been hiding musically,” Shipman explains. “I didn’t set out to write folk songs, but I was going through some difficult life stuff and my experiences kept turning into folk songs.”

Writing music has been the way that Shipman has made sense of the world for years, but something was different this time.

“The feelings were too raw to hide them in rock music,” she says of the revealing and relatable lyrics on “Wilderness.”

For a time, Shipman felt these revelations might be only for herself, too personal to actually share with the world.

“I was talking with a friend of mine,” she remembers. “He helped me realize that we never know how we will have a positive impact on someone. Making ‘Wilderness’ has been a long process of peeling away doubts and fears, but it’s part of having faith that people can gain something from hearing these songs.”

“Wilderness” by Little Shrine is scheduled for release on October 20^th, 2017, preceded by the single “Stone,” streaming now.
