“Bronson has
soaked up all the best parts of ‘70s rock and created his own vibe. Captivating.” – MAGNET
“Being just a solo acoustic guitar and voice, it’s the
quietest song on what is generally a quiet album,” songwriter David Bronson says of “Living in Name,” the first track taken
from his upcoming release, The Long Lost, arriving on September 17th. The song has premiered exclusively via American Songwriter at
this link. “Emotionally and structurally,
though, it’s the purest distillation of the meaning of the whole record.” Bronson will bring material from the
album to life starting tomorrow during a week of tour dates throughout the
northeast. See below for details.
The Long Lost was produced Bronson and mixed by Godfrey Diamond
(Lou Reed, Sparks, Glen Campbell)
and is the more internal-feeling prequel to Bronson’s early-2013 album release Story. That album earned Bronson attention not only for its songs which evoke the Cat Stevens and Harry Chapin era of songwriting, but also for its inventive videos
that were variously featured by Under
The Radar, Baeblemusic,
My Old Kentucky Blog and
others.
The album completes a 22-song cycle titled “The Long Lost Story,” that Bronson has been brewing for close to a
decade and which documents what he terms “the most difficult period that I can
remember.” Silver linings being what
they are, Bronson also found much to
be positive about on the other side of the experience that gave this record its
tone. “I found a clear sense of myself
as an artist during this time, so amidst all that discomfort, I also felt
truly, undeniably alive.”
As for bringing all of these feelings up nearly a
decade after the fact, Bronson
explains, “I suppose it’s unusual to release a record so long after its making,
but being so far away from where I was during the writing and recording really
emphasizes the documentary aspect of the whole thing for me. I’m very happy
that this period of my young life was recorded, and very excited to let it out
into the world at long last.”
When Bronson
isn’t writing and recording his solo material, he can be found working as a
contributing composer and editor on filmmaker Jennifer Elster’s “The Being Experience.” The project is an unflinching look at
existence, featuring a cast of actors, thinkers, and musicians including Dave Matthews, Moby, Questlove, Rufus Wainwright, and Yoko Ono among many others.
David
Bronson’s The Long Lost is scheduled
for release on September 17th. Bronson
is available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
