Vinyl-centric website The Vinyl District has appropriately debuted the video for “Still Analog,” the first single from Music for Film, the upcoming debut album by The March Divide.  The record, essentially the one-man project of San Antonio-based, Jared Putnam, is scheduled for release on Seattle-based Dead Letter Records on February 12th, 2013.  A download of the single was previously premiered via American Songwriter.

“The song says that I’m behind the times in a lot of ways, that I’m just a bit old fashioned,” Putnam says of the clip. “Throughout, we wanted to show those cool shots of vintage equipment to hit on the metaphors in the lyrics like the ‘old note books, with pin marks and misspelled hooks,’ to maybe point out that they’re not really metaphors at all. At its core, ‘Still Analog’ is a pop song about how another pop song isn’t the solution to my bullshit.”

Music for Film is a fresh start for Putnam after leaving the rock and roll life following many years on the road with his band The Conversation. “All of that time on tour wrecked my personal life,” he explains. “But, it only took a couple of years before the void from not playing was just too big to ignore.” An acoustic-based record that only has a full drum kit on half of the songs, the unique sound of Music for Film still maintains distinct references to Putnam’s louder influences such as The Promise Ring and Cursive, and Putnam’s love of Elliott Smith comes out in the album’s catchy hooks, clever lyrics and unexpected upbeat moments.

The March Divide’s debut album Music for Film will be released February 12th, 2013 on Dead Letter Records. The album’s first single “Still Analog” is streaming and available for free download now.  The March Divide will tour in support of Music for Film in early 2013.  See below for upcoming confirmed dates.
