About Scarlet Season
Scarlet Season is the stage name of Aileen Paron, a self-taught pianist whose desire for autonomy and passion for learning all things musical inspired her to take the DIY approach to recording, programming, and composing. Paron produced the Scarlet Season debut album The Taxidermist herself with co-production by Matt Frickelton of The Fading Collection.
Critics are already praising the album’s swirling synths, pretty pianos, nasty bass, and moody electronic elements as heard on “Horse Fury,” the first single from The Taxidermist and now on its follow-up, “History of Violence” (STREAM | MP3). Paron explains the song, saying, “It's a song about the nature of humans as hot-tempered creatures. I like to write about the dark side as a way of confronting and exposing the less pleasant aspects of my own personality.”
Scarlet Season is already being compared to artists such as Bjork, Tori Amos, Goldfrapp, Bat For Lashes and Depeche Mode, both in sound and in lyrics that chronicle themes of anger, loss, betrayal and loneliness. It is material that is admittedly personal and at times uncomfortably so, but Paron believes that pop music needn’t be fluffy. Pop music packaging needn’t be either: The haunting illustrations by Matt Strieby that adorn the cover of The Taxidermist were inspired by an actual Parisian taxidermy shop.
