“Just what L.A. needs –another fucking 80’s new wave band, right?” joked Matt Doty, the composing half of the L.A.-based duo Midnight Faces upon the release of The Fire Is Gone, the band’s latest album.

Apparently the press didn’t mind, as Midnight Faces has been received fondly since the release of its debut album Fornication in 2013, drawing the attention of MTV, SPIN and The Onion among others.  The new Midnight Faces video for its “Over Again” single can now be seen via newly minted music discovery website Wondering Sound.

Now, Doty and his bandmate, vocalist Phil Stancil, will hit the road to play out tunes from both albums in November when Midnight Faces supports new Secretly Canadian – Last Gang signings Electric Youth on that band’s North American tour.  See below for complete itinerary.

Barely into his teens, Matt Doty began making music with childhood friend Jonny Pierce (of The Drums), resulting in a full-length album released by Columbia Records. At age twenty, he went on to co-found post-rock instrumental giants Saxon Shore with Josh Tillman (aka Father John Misty), releasing three EPs, and two albums produced by Dave Fridmann (MGMT, Tame Impala, Flaming Lips.)

“I had been writing new music during Saxon Shore’s hiatus, with no idea as to where the songs would end up,” Doty says of the beginnings of Midnight Faces.  “Towards the end of 2012, I asked Phil to take a shot at adding vocals to a couple of the tunes and that’s when things started to fall into place.”

“To better understand what The Fire Is Gone is, please understand what it isn’t,” Doty explains of the new Midnight Faces album. “No fancy producers, no big name special guests, no one wearing robot costumes, no all-analog studio, and no songs recorded live to tape. We made this album by ourselves and for ourselves.  We made it in my apartment on a computer one track at a time.”

Matt Doty and Phil Stancil of Midnight Faces are available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“Relentlessly hooky and ridiculously accessible.” – Entertainment Weekly

The Wall Street Journal dubbed musician Salme Dahlstrom a “music licensing queen” when, like Moby before her, she licensed every track from her 2008 album The Acid Cowgirl Audio Trade to various ad campaigns and television programs.  At the time, Dahlstrom, a songwriter at heart who produces, performs, edits, and mixes all of her tracks herself, was not only just getting noticed, she was just getting started.

“C’mon Y’All,” one of catchiest numbers on an album of catchy numbers, climbed Billboard’s Dance Chart and eventually received prominent placements in major ad campaigns for CoverGirl, Suave, and Kellogg’s that ran on primetime network television for months. That streak continues as LG has picked up Dahlstrom’s track “Reality Check” to rep its latest smartphone in a ubiquitous television advertising campaign for the product.

While managing what has become a highly successful licensing business, Dahlstrom continues write the songs and do the work that got her here.  Dahlstrom will release “Pop Propaganda Volume 2: Retro Funk Soul Junction” on September 16th, 2014.  The new six-song collection (plus remixes by SpekrFreks, DJ Phunkae, and Quadrat Beat) is preceded by the singles “Pop Ur Heart Out” + “Love+Shine,” both streaming now.

About “Pop Ur Heart Out,” Dahlstrom says, “I felt like bringing some soul and poetry to the party.  I used organic instruments - piano and acoustic guitar - and mixed them with glitch effects and Kaoss Pad to give it an electronic edge. It's one of my new favorites!”  She explains “Love+ Shine,” saying, “I had the title first. It was going to be a love song, but I wanted to write that age old story from a new perspective. So, I stepped forth as a cocky, wide-eyed optimist with the opening line, ‘As a self-appointed expert on the politics of love...’ It's a new character, at least for me!”

The first remix available from the collection is the glitchy take on “Pop Ur Heart Out” by San Francisco-based crew, SpekrFreks (www.spekrfreks.com). Consistently found in the Top 10 of Beatport’s Electro and Dubstep charts with their productions, SpekrFreks spend their days providing soundtrack music for Disney, ABC, MTV, and other major networks.

“Pop Propaganda Volume 2: Retro Funk Soul Junction” by Salme Dahlstrom is scheduled for release on September 16th, 2014 via Kontainer Music.
