“…a lovely album…” – The Owl Mag

“…taking indie-pop to rarified heights.” – iTunes

The San Francisco Chronicle has exclusively debuted the video for “Coil” by the SF-based duo Tidelands at the newspaper’s website SFGate.com.

See the post here: http://blog.sfgate.com/loaded/2012/08/16/tidelands. The video is the second clip produced to promote the sophomore Tidelands album We’ve Got A Map, out now.

“If this video doesn’t remind you of being 15-years-old, I failed,” says Tidelands band member Gabriel Leis of the clip that he conceptualized with videographer Nelsen Brazill.  The video features two teenage girl best friends spending a day roaming throughout the city and captures what Leis describes as “the intensity of the friendship, the smiles and laughter, the adventurous spirits, and that moment right before some sort of innocence is lost.”

The video features many well-known San Francisco locales.  “I was insistent we end the day of shooting at Ft. Funston overlooking the Pacific,” says Leis.

Tidelands, comprised of vocalist, guitarist and flugelhorn player Leis and drummer Mie Araki, will be seeing a few cities themselves starting today when the duo launches a string of west coast dates in support of We’ve Got A Map. See below for dates and details.

We’ve Got A Map by Tidelands is out now.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic to talk to the band or for more information.

“The sounds on ‘Beauty and Undertow’ are in their own world; one full of passion…” – Mary Leary, My Old Kentucky Blog

Austin by way of Brooklyn-based songwriter Chris McFarland will release the “Beauty and Undertow” EP, his sixth collection of “angry folk” songs on August 21st via the End Up label.  “Beauty and Undertow” is the realization of a long-held dream of McFarland’s to reunite the members of groundbreaking emo group Rainer Maria for the first time since that band’s break up in late 2006.  The EP’s latest single, “Simple Selfish Plan” is available for streaming and download now.

“Kyle (Fischer, Rainer Maria guitarist) and I have been best friends for the last 23 years,” says McFarland of his paring with the members of Rainer Maria. Bill (Kuehn, Rainer Maria drummer) has been one of my favorite drummers for many years and Caithlin (De Marrais, Rainer Maria vocalist) was on my last EP.” When it came time to plan this new record, McFarland says he “just had to approach them all about being on it with me.”

A true road warrior, McFarland can be found crisscrossing the United States several months of the year, wearing down his late-model Martin acoustic with his ceremonial self-eviscerations. McFarland will embark on a month-long tour of the US next week to promote “Beauty and Undertow”. See below for dates and stay tuned for additional performances to be announced shortly.

Chris McFarland is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

As promised, Denver-based indie rock band Dressy Bessy is back with the second installment of its “Summer Singles” collection. Comprised of the songs “Something To Love” b/w “Wind Me Up”, volume two is available now via the band’s Bandcamp site at: http://dressybessy.bandcamp.com/album/summer-singles-volume-2.  While Dressy Bessy is offering the single as a free download, donations are encouraged, as the band will forward all proceeds to Colorado wildfire relief organizations.

Dressy Bessy lead singer and guitarist, Tammy Ealom, along with lead guitarist John Hill (also of The Apples in stereo), bass player Rob Greene, and drummer Craig Gilbert are having fun releasing a series of upbeat summer pop singles, but can’t help feeling a debt to their home state of Colorado.  “We’re just torn up about all of the loss involved with the wildfires here, says Hill, adding, “We can’t raise as much as some, but hope that we serve as example and make the point that every dollar counts in this situation.”

The band also felt the need at this time to express its sadness over the untimely death last week of Bill Doss, a close friend, Hill’s Apples bandmate and co-founder of fellow Elephant 6 group The Olivia Tremor Control.  In a post on Dressy Bessy’s Facebook page, the band stated, “We find ourselves torn about how to proceed after the passing of our good friend Bill Doss. Our new songs were finished before his passing, so it is not appropriate to specifically dedicate them to him, but we cannot let the passing of such a musical soul stop the music. If anything we'll just turn the volume up to 11 and dance about in his honor. We love you Billy!”

Hill elaborates, “When you lose dear friends in an untimely manner, it really puts things in perspective, but I spent many hours, days, and weeks on the road with Bill and I know that he would want everything to continue as planned.” Ealom comments, “In my experience, the rock n' roll world has always been a boys club, but Bill always made me feel included. He was very gracious and respectful of my role as a female songwriter and band leader and always went out of his way to let me know that. There are so many reasons we'll miss him, but for me, I'll really miss his charm, and will never forget how comfortable and vital he made me feel.”

Dressy Bessy recorded its last three albums in professional studios, 2003’s Dressy Bessy and 2005’s Electrified with Britt Myers (Chairlift, Yeasayer) and HollerandStomp with Trent Bell (Chainsaw Kittens, Starlight Mints, The Flaming Lips.)  This time around, the band has gone back to its do-it-yourself roots.  Hill and Ealom share recording duties and Ealom handles creating videos, artwork, and imagery as well. Essentially, the band is able to deliver a finished product without ever leaving the house!  Dressy Bessy’s “Summer Singles” are available at dressybessy.com (where you can name your price), iTunes, and Amazon.com.

More about Dressy Bessy:

Dressy Bessy was formed in 1997 in Denver, Colorado. 1999 saw the release of the band’s debut Pink Hearts Yellow Moons, immortalized in director Jamie Babbit’s indie classic film “But I’m A Cheerleader.”  In 2000, Dressy Bessy recorded a cover of the song “Bubbles”, originally by The Free Design, for The Powerpuff Girls: Heroes and Villains soundtrack.

2003’s Dressy Bessy caught the ear of John Peel resulting in a Dressy Bessy performance at the BBC for Peel’s legendary Peel Sessions.  In the same year the band made their network television debut on Last Call with Carson Daly. “Side 2” from the band’s Electrified album appeared on the soundtrack to the teen hit She’s The Man, starring Amanda Bynes in 2005 and the band also performed on Late Night with Conan O’Brien that year. Dressy Bessy’s current “Summer Singles” collection is its follow-up to the 2008 album HollerandStomp.
