Married Bakersfield, California-based shoegaze / dreampop duo Fawns of Love (Jenny and Joseph Andreotti) has shared “Someday,” the first single from the band’s upcoming sophomore album Permanent (and first as new signees to Test Pattern Records, out Jan. 18^th, 2019.) The song premiered via Ghettoblaster Magazine and is now available on all streaming services.

Regarding the thematic influences on the new album, Jenny says, “For the past year, my life has been in a complete flux. People have moved away, relationships have changed, and this has challenged my belief that people’s love for you is permanent.”

“Someday” is the first new music from Fawns of Love since selling-out of the limited-edition 12-inch vinyl release this past summer of its appearance on the Los Angeles-based “Part Time Punks” radio show.

Both full-time educators – Joseph teaches middle school, Jenny is a full-time instructor at CSU-Bakersfield – the Andreottis have been married for 13 years, performing together for 16, and recording, touring and releasing music throughout that time under various names and labels. In 2013, they began a break when Jenny enrolled in a history graduate program, but by 2017, it was time to begin being a band again, including choosing a new name.

“One of our favorite records is Hounds of Love by Kate Bush,” Joseph says. “We wanted a name that would pay homage to that.”

 In addition to Kate Bush, additional influences on Fawns of Love include familiar names such as The Chills, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Blur, Pulp, Slowdive, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Sparks.

 Fawns of Love takes all of these legendary sounds, which some might think of as cold or aloof, and makes them pop with overtones of The Smiths, New Order, and the warmth that comes from the Andreotti’s many years of making music together.

Permanent, the second full-length by Fawns of Love, is scheduled for release on Jan. 18^th, 2019 by Test Pattern Records, preceded by the single “Someday,” streaming now. Jenny and Joseph Andreotti are available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

San Antonio-based songwriter Jared Putnam aka The March Divide has added another 40 dates to his seemingly non-stop touring schedule. See below for full itinerary stretching into 2019. Putnam is supporting the release of his summer 2018 album, Anticipation Pops, which has continued to earn him much praise into the fall months for his voice, lyrics, and melodies on what is being acknowledged as his most heartfelt and revealing album to date.

Over the course of three albums, five EPs, numerous singles, and a batch of cover songs in a mere half-decade, Putnam’s mostly one-man project The March Divide has delivered a seemingly unending stream of songs that have established him as one of the best rock songwriters working today.

Anticipation Pops is the fourth album by The March Divide, and was produced by Mike Major (At The Drive In, Sparta, Gone Is Gone.) Hear “Spinning” now via PopMatters and check out the music video at The Big Takeover.

“This record feels like a new direction,” Putnam says.

Putnam claims that the work on Anticipation Pops represent a thematic “consistent inconsistency,” different from his more planned past albums. And while he dials that back when he agrees that the album is cohesive, he’s either being modest, or is far enough outside of his comfort zone now not to notice that Anticipation Pops is actually his most thematic record of all.

Writing ten personal songs from a unique perspective, but relatable to everyone, is an artistic goal most songwriters never achieve. Putnam affirms that he made Anticipation Pops by deciding, “this is what I’m doing, take it or leave it.” Apparently he didn’t know that the result would be the work his fans can care for most of all.

Following a round of festival appearances “Queercore: How To Punk A Revolution,” a new film that documents the start of the pseudo-movement to the widespread rise of pop artists who used queer identity to push back against gay assimilation and homophobic punk culture, will make its way to theaters nationwide this fall in a limited run.

What happens when the community you need is not the community you have?

Tell yourself it exists over and over, make fan zines that fabricate hordes of queer punk revolutionaries, create subversive movies, and distribute those movies widely–and slowly, the community you’ve fabricated might become a real and radical heartbeat that spreads internationally. This is the story that “Queercore: How To Punk A Revolution” tells, from the start of a pseudo-movement in the mid-1980s, intended to punk the punk scene, to the widespread rise of artists who used radical queer identity to push back equally against gay assimilation and homophobic punk culture.

Interviewees discuss homophobia, gender, feminism, AIDS, assimilation, sex, and, of course, art. The extensive participant list includes Bruce LaBruce, G.B. Jones, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, John Waters, Justin Vivian Bond, Lynn Breedlove, Silas Howard, Pansy Division, Penny Arcade, Kathleen Hanna, Kim Gordon, Deke Elash, Tom Jennings, Team Dresch, and many more.

Underscoring the interviews are clips from movies, zines, concerts, and actions iconic to the movement. As steeped in the radical queer, anti-capitalist, DIY, and give-no-fucks approach as queercore itself, the movie reveals the perspectives and experiences of bands, moviemakers, writers, and other outsiders, taking audiences inside the creation of the community–and art–so desperately needed by the same queers it encompassed.
