“We kicked around the idea of shooting the video in Vegas with showgirls, but that just wasn't us,” says Red Wanting Blue leader Scott Terry. Instead the band, whose members confess to being “mama’s boys” deep down, talked their mothers into portraying their sons in the video for the new Red Wanting Blue single “You Are My Las Vegas,” premiering today via Esquire.

The timing of the release for Mother’s Day isn’t a coincidence – the band says the opportunity to make the video was a bonding experience they’ll never forget.

“For our moms to participate in this was so courageous, and the camaraderie we shared during this shoot was so special,” says Terry. “I'll remember it forever. And my Mom looked so good wearing my mustache!"

Columbus, Ohio-based band Red Wanting Blue returns this summer on July 1^st with Little America, it’s most personal and promising album to date. In the years since vocalist and songwriter Scott Terry formed Red Wanting Blue, the band has gone on to establish itself as a quintessential example of American perseverance and hard work, building an exceedingly loyal fanbase based on non-stop touring, all without any industry support.

Known for making instant fans of the uninitiated with one of the most engaging and passionate live shows on the road today, Red Wanting Blue found even bigger audiences after the release of its 2012 From The Vanishing Point album, which landed in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and at #1 for the band’s home region.

Appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live,” and NPR’s “Mountain Stage” followed, and while Red Wanting Blue continues to reach new and bigger career milestones, the band is also staying true to its roots.  The new Red Wanting Blue album Little America arrives on July 1^st.  The band will announce a full U.S. tour later this month.

“I guess their fake IDs didn’t fool the bouncers,” 18-year-old singer-songwriter Andrew St. James says about why his friends were removed from lower NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall on the evening captured for his new Live In NYC release, now available for free download via Noisetrade.  Comprised of nine songs, the record follows-up the San Francisco-based musician’s 2013 Dylan-esque debut album Doldrums, recorded when he was just 17-years-old and produced by Jim Greer (a platinum record recipient for his work with Foster The People.)

Greer says, “Live In NYC has the feel of a long-buried bootleg, a timeless sounding performance that might just one day prove to be a treasured document of an artist with a powerful voice.”  Accompanied only by his guitar, St. James brings the same intensity and passion to the stage that is heard on Doldrums, which is still earning attention for its self-aware and socially conscious songwriting even as St. James begins recording his second studio album.

Recently, former San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom and former First Lady of California, Maria Shriver both tweeted and posted about the Doldrums track “A Prayer For East Oakland.” The song, which takes a serious look at the rate of gun-related deaths in Oakland, was noticed by Newsom and Shriver after the video for the song premiered, accompanied by an interview with St. James, at locally-based website The Bay Bridged.

St. James explains that the song “was originally a poem I wrote after a childhood friend of mine was murdered during the summer of 2011 outside of his home in East Oakland.”  He continues, “Watching the homicide rate in the city rise almost exponentially during that time made me frustrated with how little people around me knew or cared about the violence in a community so close to our home.”

The music video for “Laughing At Rainbows” by Redvers was shot in a pristine environment in the Blue Mountains of Australia in an area once inhabited by indigenous Australians.

“There are rock paintings that are apparently the oldest found in the Blue Mountains, and depending on who you talk to, the area is also well-known for UFO sightings,” explains Justin Gill, the man behind Redvers and the star of the clip, along with his siblings, who have been visiting this secret location since they were kids.

It can be argued, however, that the real stars here are the mountains, shot with nothing more than an iPhone.

“It’s a spectacular lookout with breathtaking views,” Gill says.  “I’ve seen some incredible sights in Switzerland and Argentina, but this place makes me happy I grew up in the Blue Mountains. I’m really happy we got to include a lot nature, lots of sun, and my family.  To me they all represent softness and simplicity.”

With so much nature on display, it’s interesting that the first sign of civilization seen in the clip is a Sub Pop sticker on Gill’s guitar case.  With tunes that bear sonic resemblance to Sub Pop artist Iron & Wine, one wonders if Gill cites that band’s Sam Beam as an influence.

“When I wrote ‘Laughing At Rainbows,’ my girlfriend said it reminded her of Iron & Wine,” Gill remembers. “I’d never heard of him, so she gave me one of his albums and I absolutely loved it.”

Of the last-minute moments that led to the creation of the debut Redvers album Truth In Silence, Gill says, “I only had the morning to complete some crucial lyrics, but they seemed to come quick and easy in an old Mission District diner the morning of recording.”

To make Truth In Silence, Gill dreamed of recording in America, and so landed in San Francisco in 2013 to track the album at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone studio. Fresh, raw, and without armor, the album was recorded in one sitting.  The result is a soft hum that pacifies the soul and captures an essence unyielding. “I was enraptured at the sense of freedom as I boarded the plane,” Gill remembers of the journey.  “I was off to capture a special moment in time.”
