“Their arty, roiling post-punk veers on the dissonant, gale-swept precipice where noise kites like Sonic Youth fly.” – Orlando Weekly

Tampa, Florida’s Permanent Makeup will release its debut album The Void… It Creeps via the New Granada label on February 26th.  MAGNET Magazine has premiered the album’s first single “Not A Riot,” available for free download now.

Formed in 2010, bassist Chris Nadeau (of noise-punk band Blast & The Detergents), his wife/drummer Susan Dickson, and guitarist James Bess (ex-Dumbwaiters, Insect Joy), played their first show together as Permanent Makeup without having ever practiced. The venue was a doctor’s office, and the mostly improvised show, featuring audience members on vocals reading infomercial ad copy, was deemed a success.

Calling the underground punk and art scene their home, Permanent Makeup spent the following two years cutting its teeth in true DIY fashion by playing house shows on self-booked tours of the U.S. and recording and releasing home-packaged EPs.

Fans of the band have since identified elements in Permanent Makeup’s sound that remind of fuzzed-out garage-psych, the writings of author Phillip K. Dick, sci-fi surf and avant-electronic music, and the content of pamphlets handed out on street corners by homeless schizophrenics.

The Void… It Creeps, the first official label release from Permanent Makeup, is scheduled for release on February 26th.  See the band set the record free via an album trailer here: http://vimeo.com/59033211 and on tour next month (see dates below.)

Permanent Makeup is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“I drew much of my inspiration for Ionika from Druid history and folklore,” says Taara Tati of Metal Mother.  Following-up to her 2011 debut Bonfire Diaries, the Oakland artist’s latest is scheduled for release on April 16th via her own Post Primal label.  Black Book has exclusively premiered the album’s first official single “Prism” today.

Tati’s unique use of heavy electronic and tribal drums, obscure arrangements, Celtic-melancholic vocal layering, and dark, analog synth melodies are what first drew attention to her work in 2011. The sounds came together in a way that pleased fans of artists such as Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush, Enya, and Nine Inch Nails.

Bonfire Diaries”, and its mesmerizing video for the single “Shake,” went on to receive numerous press accolades, including a “Best of 2011” designation from the San Francisco Bay Guardian which described Tati as “some sort of neon, acid-drenched wood nymph.” San Francisco-based glossy SOMA described Bonfire Diaries as “full of beautiful, eerie, unfamiliar sounds,” and Performer Magazine gave Metal Mother its cover.

Now Tati has made good on the promise of her first record with Ionika, a stunning sophomore set. “Ionika differs from Bonfire Diaries in that one of the main intentions of this album is to get energy up when the songs are performed live,” says Tati. “The faster pulse of this album probably reflects my ongoing restlessness. It seems the more I do, the more I want to do.”

Ionika, the sophomore Metal Mother album, is scheduled for release on the artist’s own Post Primal label on April 16th, 2013. The album’s lead track “Mind_off” and its first official single “Prism,” are both streaming now. Taara Tati of Metal Mother is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

NYC–based songwriter David Bronson has teamed up with producer NESIMO for a take on Bronson’s single “Momentary,” the latest from his Story album, out now.  The NESIMO remix of “Momentary” can be streamed and downloaded here: https://soundcloud.com/fanaticpro/david-bronson-momentary-nesimo. “‘Momentary’ is a special song to me because it was co-written by my brother Jeremy,” says Bronson, “I really love what NESIMO’s done with the song. It’s a whole new thing.”

“Momentary,” and its accompanying video, follows a string of clips from Story, and Bronson isn’t done yet.  Several more videos are planned for tracks from the Godfrey Diamond (Lou Reed, Sparks, Glen Campbell)–produced album.  Meanwhile, Bronson is already in the midst of completing The Long Lost, the follow–up to Story and, interestingly, also its prequel, as Story and The Long Lost together comprise a twenty-two song cycle entitled “The Long Lost Story.”

“Godfrey and I are putting the last little tracking touches on The Long Lost,” Bronson confirms. “The vibe on these songs is somewhat moodier, and I think the more spare and gritty arrangements reflect that. It brings me right back into my early–twenties self, right in the crux of that emotionally heightened moment.”

For the “Momentary” music video, Bronson says, “I wanted to do a ‘lyric’ video, but something more interesting than just the album cover with the words over it. I wrote out a rough outline, and I literally found illustrator David Sparshott by Googling the word ‘illustrator.’ I was just really drawn to his style and I’m thrilled with his interpretation.”

David Bronson’s Story is available now and its singles and videos for “Momentary,” “The Turns,” and “Times” are streaming now, as well.  David Bronson is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
