Columbus, Ohio’s Red Wanting Blue released its latest studio album From The Vanishing Point today.  The album is the band’s first album of new songs since 2008’s These Magnificent Miles which was re-issued in 2010 after the band signed with Fanatic Records, an EMI/Caroline-distributed record label based in New York City.  The album’s latest single “White Snow” has just been released to radio around the country.

Red Wanting Blue has amassed a loyal following in and around the Midwest since being formed by its leader, songwriter and vocalist, Scott Terry while in college at Ohio University in the late 90’s.  Fans of the band are used to its records being “released” when they are manufactured, so a proper record label set up time was something new for them.  To appease Red Wanting Blue‘s followers, the label posted a Soundcloud stream of the album ahead of the release date, which has since amassed nearly 150,000 track plays.

Red Wanting Blue is now back out on the road doing what it does best.  The band’s live show continues to generate word of mouth throughout the nation and the first two shows on the From The Vanishing Point tour in Pittsburgh and Akron were both sold-out, with fans being turned away at the door.  See photos from the Akron performance at Musica here: http://www.gmurrayphotography.com/Photography/Concerts/Red-Wanting-Blue-Musica-Akron.

Red Wanting Blue will return to one of its strongholds, the House of Blues in Cleveland, for a headlining show on February 4^th, a return to World Café Live in Philadelphia is scheduled for 2/19, and then it’s back to NYC to headline Rockwood Music Hall on February 22^nd.  The band’s last performance in NYC was also a sold-out show.  Red Wanting Blue is scheduled to perform several times on the 2012 edition of The Rock Boat sailing from New Orleans to Cozumel, Mexico from March 1^st through the 5^th as well.

The Seattle-based duo Lux will release its debut album We Are Not The Same on April 3rd, 2012. Inspired by some of the most essential artists of the era of indie and underground music (Pavement, The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, The Magnetic Fields, The Jesus & Mary Chain, New Order, Blondie), Leah Rosen and David Chandler trade off vocals, guitars, synths and drum programming on the record which they also wrote, recorded and mixed themselves.

The pair originally met via Craigslist in early 2010 and quickly released the digital EP “Disorders” just a scant five months later in July of that year. Inspired by the DIY ethics of their heroes, Rosen and Chandler began to relentlessly promote the songs on the internet, gaining the attention of adventurous foreign blogs in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Italy, and Spain.

The songs began to rack up hundreds of plays a day and after setting up a Facebook page, Lux quickly amassed 8500-plus “likes” – an impressive feat for a self-released, self-promoted act that was already doing everything else itself. Lux also printed up a couple hundred copies of “Disorders,” mailed them out themselves to a list of college radio stations, and promptly landed on the playlists of influential stations such as WNYU at New York University and KALX at the University of California at Berkeley.

Lux is still contemplating how it will play live (they never have!) as both Rosen and Chandler are self-confessed control freaks susceptible to the unpredictable nature of the stage. “Really, we just haven’t got around to it yet,” says Chandler. “We were actually offered a tour of Europe, but decided to focus on recording the album instead.” The debut Lux album We Are Not The Same is due for release on April 3rd.

The Berlin-based Israeli band TV Buddhas recently released a new 7-inch on the Staatsakt label, distributed by Rough Trade.  Vice Magazine recently caught up with TV Buddhas on one of its never-ending European tours to chat.  See the interview here: http://www.vice.com/en_uk/noisey-vbs/tv-buddhas.

With the new single out, and being a prolific band, TV Buddhas is now prepping its next batch of songs.   Two of these new TV Buddhas tunes were recently performed acoustically by the trio for the Portugese broadcast Bodyspace.  See the intimate performance of “In The Shadow of A Wave” and “No More Neighborhood” here: http://videoteca.bodyspace.net/46/tv-buddhas.

Of the performance, Bodyspace writes (translated from Portugese):  “In passing by Portugal, more precisely by the city of Porto, the Israelis TV Buddhas (currently living in Berlin) have accepted our invitation and went to the basement of the Cafe Ceuta and devoted to Bodyspace two wonderful songs in format essentially acoustic, between two fingers of conversation and a few shots of snooker to heat the environment.”

Over the past four years, the three members of TV Buddhas (Juval Haring, his wife Mickey Triest and her brother Uri Triest) have proven themselves to be one of Europe’s most hardworking acts, regularly performing 200-plus shows a year.  The band’s work ethic is echoed in its music, influenced by early 80’s guitar driven punk rock, in all its naivety and pathos, and is reminiscent of bands like The Wipers, Husker Du and The Ramones.

TV Buddhas’ lyrics deal mostly with outsider-ism, failing in life, going nowhere, and TV addiction.  Some of the realities that end up in the band’s songs can be witnessed first-hand in the documentary of the first, and highly disastrous TV Buddhas US tour.
