Los Angeles-based band Archer Black has released the first single from its upcoming album Forgiveness Is A Weapon (January 3rd, 2012 – Post Planetary Records).  Those who purchase the digital single directly from Post Planetary Records can choose a lossless audio format and will receive an additional non-album track “The Sounding (Acoustic).” The bonus song is actually a stripped down version of label owner Faris McReynolds’s favorite track from Forgiveness Is A Weapon.

“I asked for something as laid back and casual as Dustin would allow,” says McReynolds referring to Archer Black leader Dustin Morgan, who is also known as the bass player for The Autumns. “So this is him playing upright bass, piano, guitar and singing,” continues McReynolds.  “He didn’t want to do something too simple though, As he put it: ‘I'm not a troubadour with an acoustic guitar.’”

Morgan himself explains that “This version is recorded more or less the way it was written.  The piano is my grandmother's old piano and hasn't been tuned in at least 20 years.  I've almost called a piano tuner about ten times, but I guess it just wouldn't be right if that piano was suddenly perfectly in tune. I played all the instruments on this version. It's got an intimacy that is a really nice counterpoint to the more heavily orchestrated version on the record.”

The video for “Onward & Down” is also available now and stars actor Luke Barnett and Archer Black violinist Jen Thomas. “Onward & Down” is the first single from Archer Black’s debut album Forgiveness Is A Weapon scheduled for release on Post Planetary Records on January 3rd, 2012. Archer Black’s Dustin Morgan is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“Head For The Hills” is the first single from the debut album by Walter Rose

“It’s not every day you open a door and see someone like Lucinda Williams on the other side,” exclaims Carmel, California-based Walter Rose about the final day of recording for his debut album Cast Your Stone. Williams, along with her band and long-time producer Eric Liljestrand, back up Rose on the record; a dusty, worn-in collection of songs that American Songwriter Magazine says sound as if they “could have been released in 1975.”

The cathartic qualities of Rose’s songs come hard fought, colored by personal tragedies in his late teens and early twenties that ultimately led him to songwriting. “It was a dreadful time in my life,” Rose says. “I used songwriting as an outlet. I wouldn’t say that it is the subject of my songs but it was somehow a catalyst to start writing seriously.”

Of the demo EP that came out of that time and eventually made its way to American Songwriter, Rose remembers, “The recording was rough, but the songs came through.” Realizing he needed to re-record the material with higher production values, Rose set about tracking down Liljestrand.

Signing on, Liljestrand then suggested that Williams’s band join Rose in the studio. Williams herself appears on the album track “Driving South” to duet with Rose.  Of the cast of the album, Rose simple states, “This is my dream band.”

Walter Rose’s debut album Cast Your Stone will be released on January 17th, 2012. Rose is available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“You feel liberated, exhilarated, free. What are you listening to? Red Wanting Blue.” – Performing Songwriter

Columbus, Ohio’s Red Wanting Blue gave its fans a treat in October when it revealed one track per day from its upcoming album From The Vanishing Point. Once the entire album was streaming on the 13th, Red Wanting Blue capped off the preview by performing all of From The Vanishing Point live in its entirety in front of a home town crowd of nearly 1000 fans who were already singing along with the unreleased material.

The sneak preview was meant to satisfy the band’s loyal (some would say obsessive) Midwest-based fans who have to wait until January 10th, 2012 for the release of the album via Fanatic Records. From The Vanishing Point is Red Wanting Blue’s first album recorded for a label after many independent, self-released albums and years of touring that have solidified the band’s reputation as one of the best live acts in the country.

Red Wanting Blue will return to NYC for the first since June for a headlining show at Rockwood Music Hall on Tuesday November 8th.  As word about the band’s powerful and passionate live show has spread, Red Wanting Blue’s tour schedule has become busier.  Dates opening for Carbon Leaf at World Cafe Live in Philly (12/3), a headlining show at Cleveland’s House of Blues (2/4) and a five–day stint aboard The Rock Boat sailing to Cozumel, Mexico (3/1-3/5) have just been announced in addition to continued visits to the band’s rust belt strongholds.

From The Vanishing Point is the second album that Red Wanting Blue has recorded with Grammy®-nominated producer Jamie Candiloro, whose previous work includes engineering several REM records and producing the bulk of the Ryan Adams catalog.

Scott Terry of Red Wanting Blue is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
