Over three years in the making, New Zealand’s Lil’ Chief Records is proud to present the debut album by Princess Chelsea, the stage persona of composer Chelsea Nikkel. Lil’ Golden Book is the first collection of what her label describes as “the soundtrack to an old Disney movie meeting Kraftwerk fronted by Enya in a 60’s production of ‘Les Miserables’ set in space.”

More to the point, Lil’ Golden Book is full of stories about growing up in modern New Zealand. Everyday situations surrounding drinking, the internet, and petty jealousies are presented as some kind of bizarre layman’s fairy-tale. The juxtaposition of Princess Chelsea’s lush, orchestral arrangements and the sardonic wit of her lyrics make for an intriguing listen.

Lil’ Golden Book’s first single and video “The Cigarette Duet” (featuring guest vocals and guitar by Jonathan Bree of Sub Pop band, The Brunettes) dishes up a catchy 60’s style pop duet reminiscent of Nancy & Lee.  The humorous his / her argument about smoking combines witty, direct lyricism with shimmering pop arrangements and one of the catchiest guitar solos you’ll hear for a while.

The acclaim for the charming Sleepy Vikings debut album They Will Find You Here has “apparently also snagged a few high-profile supporters” according to one the most reliable music websites out there, My Old Kentucky Blog.  As posted today, this new fan is Marc Bianchi aka her space holiday, who has remixed the Sleepy Vikings single “Calm,” turning it into a wholly original take on the song.

Bianchi comments, “I was really drawn to the emotional juxtaposition between the lyrics and the music in the song ‘Calm.’ On the surface there is the driving, empowering break up anthem, however the lyrics and vocals don't follow with the same head on approach to life’s next chapter. Yes, you do have the declaration, ‘It’s over and I am not sad anymore,’ but more importantly you have, ‘Calm down my head.’ A brilliant line that anyone who has loved and lost can relate to.”

The nod from Bianchi comes on the heels of the band’s recently completed first-ever tour that took Sleepy Vikings through the South, up the East coast and into the Midwest. The band’s take on its first time on the road is both refreshing and touching in its freedom from cynicism. “The tour was amazing,” says vocalist Tessa McKenna. “When I got back to Tampa, I actually felt very different. It was the best three weeks of my life.” Sleepy Vikings will be back out on the road this Fall and is already preparing material for the follow-up to They Will Find You Here.

Parachute Mind is the follow-up to everyBoy’s 2010 debut album The Last La-La’s and reunites band leader Bruce Nathan with Grammy-award winning producer John Holbrook (Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Fountains of Wayne) and drummer Adam Topal of Jack Johnson’s band.

Nathan also welcomes newcomers to the everyBoy sound including guitarists Jimmy Wieder (Robbie Robertson’s replacement in The Band), John Platania (appearances on all of Van Morrison’s classic albums) and Johnathan Maron of Groove Collective on bass.
