Alex Lilly – About

Los Angeles-based artist Alex Lilly is a renaissance female.

In addition to the writing, arranging, producing, and playing of her own music, Lilly has established a notable career out on the road as a part of the touring bands of such esteemed musicians Beck, Lorde, Ry Cooder, and the bird and the bee. When Lilly’s in L.A, she has stayed busy throughout the years with her own projects such as Obi Best, The Living Sisters, Touché, and Zero DeZire.

Now Lilly is bringing all of her talents, ideas, and her singular voice to the table in the form of 2% Milk, her debut full-length album, out now via newly-formed Release Me Records.

Lilly’s songs – she describes her sound as “sexy psychological thriller” – are synthy, syrupy, and suspicious i.e. there’s something going on here that’s not only pop, but actually pops. The intrigue that abounds on 2% Milk moves the listener beyond toe-tapping and finger-snapping, straight to brain-mapping.

2% Milk, the debut album from Alex Lilly, is out now. Lilly tours with KOLARS in February and March. See above for full itinerary. Alex Lilly is available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

The Pinx – “Get Up” (fr. Sisters & Brothers, Out April 12th)

“Our country has also seemed to fall into darkness. It’s time to get up and remember who we are and who we should be. It’s time to remember that civil rights are worth fighting and protesting for, even and especially if you’re not the group being threatened. Oppression is not the way.” – Adam McIntyre, The Pinx

+++

About – The Pinx

The basic tracks for Sisters & Brothers (April 12th), the upcoming third album by the Atlanta, Georgia-based rock band, The Pinx, were recorded live in the studio, including band leader Adam McIntyre’s insistent vocals. Listen to “Get Up” from Sisters & Brothers here.

The dueling Allman Brothers-esque guitar leads throughout the album by McIntyre and Chance McColl happen to sound particularly majestic in this setting.

“I wanted the audience to enjoy a rock and roll band doing what a rock and roll band does,” McIntyre says of his intentions behind the process of recording Sisters & Brothers. Harmony vocals, guitar solos and extra “studio magic” came later courtesy of two magicians (producers Brian Carter and Joey Jones), marking a departure for McIntyre, who is used to wearing all of the hats.

“I’ve tried to be the singer, lead guitarist, frontman, songwriter, producer, engineer and mixer,” he says of his past recordings, “but Sisters & Brothers is a tale of letting two talented engineers do their work while we did ours as a band.” That said, it was still McIntyre’s idea to bring Carter and Jones together.

The gamble paid off this time around as Sisters and Brothers sounds like the legit combination of the styles of the men that McIntyre placed at the helm. The songs here are undeniably melodic and hummable, but it’s as if you’re tapping along while careening towards a brick wall. Sisters and Brothers embodies elegance within chaos.

“Our previous album (2016’s Freedom) was a party record, but Sisters & Brothers is for darker times,” McIntyre explains. “That’s not a bad thing, though. Darkness is important.”

Sisters & Brothers, the third album by The Pinx, arrives on April 12th, preceded by the singles “Mercy!,” “Magic Touch,” and the title track. Adam McIntyre of The Pinx is available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

More about D.B. Rouse

D.B. Rouse aspires to become “the best damn hobo musician in the world.”

Offering up all the sincerity, none of the pretense, Rouse is armed with a guitar (nicknamed “Meal-Ticket”) and a kazoo. In fact, he is sponsored by Kazoobie Kazoos, natch. A poet with an absurd sense of humor, the Milwaukee-based former cruise ship lounge singer, goat farmer, and cabana man, has just released a new album Choices Were Made.

Recently, one choice made resulted in Rouse becoming yet another musician robbed of his gear while on tour. Rouse’s experience contains an unusual fact, however: The gear was stolen while Rouse was in the vehicle it was stolen from. With his van doors unlocked due to Rouse and his wife sleeping off a night of drinking in the back, thieves quietly worked in the front, absconding with Rouse’s laptop and most of his instruments.

In other words, it’s not all fun and kazoos.

“It could have been so much worse,” Rouse admits. “What if we had woken up? What if they were armed? I was ready to quit,” he confesses. “Ready to quit touring, quit music, quit everything.”

Instead, after the insurance company refused to cover the cost of replacement, Rouse reached out to his fans. Owing to the relationships Rouse has built through that unique quality of pretense-free sincerity and humor, he was able to replace the gear.

Even so, he did quit one thing: Drinking. And with that, Rouse continues the pursuit of his dream to be “the best damn hobo musician in the world.”

Choices Were Made by D.B. Rouse is out now. D.B. Rouse is available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

The Rad Trads – each member of Brooklyn-based group is both songwriter, lead vocalist – shares two videos for new “Thumbtack” single.

Mixing punk rock energy, horn drenched soul, jazz precision, MAGNET notes band’s “genre-defying, entertaining-for-everyone live performances.”

“A confluence of excellent musicianship, deft writing and one wicked sense of humor,” says PopMatters in its premiere coverage of the new video by The Rad Trads, which sees the band biking through exotic locales. Spoiler: they were actually sitting stationary at a Citibike docking station in Brooklyn.

The Rad Trads also shot an acoustic performance of “Thumbtack” “porch-style” on the beach in Duck, NC during the summer of 2018. See it now at For Folk’s Sake or at the link below.

‘Thumbtack’ is a song about love lost, in which the character is offering up various forms of self-flagellation or humiliation to win his lover back,” says Mike Harlen of Brooklyn-based band, The Rad Trads, about the band’s latest single and music video.

In a band where each of its five members contributes their own songs, and takes lead vocals on the ones that make the cut, it’s worth noting that Harlen is the writer and vocalist on this one.

For the “Thumbtack” music video, just-premiered via PopMatters, Harlen explains, “The video was directed by our good friend Taylor Ashton, and shot by him and Sam Graff. He set up a giant green screen behind a Citibike docking station in Red Hook and had us pedal the bikes in place while he superimposed various exotic locales behind us. It’s a playful, quirky video that reflects the tone of the song, as well as the goofy good-natured-ness of the band.”

The genuine friendship between Harlen and the rest of The Rad Trads can also be seen in an acoustic performance of the song, shot in Duck, NC on a break from touring this past summer. “The band’s not sacrificed a bit of their soul in this stripped-down reimagining of the self-deprecating single,” says For Folk’s Sake in its post of the clip.

More about The Rad Trads

The gentlemen comprising the Brooklyn-based five-piece The Rad Trads distinguish themselves in ways few bands can. Already drawing lines around the block at home, the globe-trotting group’s singular take on rock n roll mixes punk rock energy, horn drenched soul, and jazz precision, all with a lighthearted but sincere delivery. It’s a sound and show that is gaining steam world over as The Rad Trads continue to tour in support of On Tap, out now from Hornblow Recordings. Listen to On Tap here.

Challenging but humorous, at times The Rad Trads bring to mind Springsteen and his “Big Man” Clarence Clemons, Dylan’s Blood On The Tracks-era vocal style, and Wilco’s epic guitar breakdowns. All of this sonic goodness is only upstaged by the fact that the guys in The Rad Trads manage to exist as five distinct songwriters and singers in a band that still sounds powerfully egoless, familial, and cohesive. And none of them even planned on being vocalists!

On Tap by The Rad Trads is out now from Hornblow Recordings. The Rad Trads will continue to tour throughout 2019. Members of The Rad Trads are available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

Before we even left, on our road trip / You said let’s stop for gas, I need cigarettes / I thought, I hate the smell when you smoke like that / But it’s sentimental

The songwriting and performing career of San Antonio-based artist Jared Putnam aka The March Divide continues to wind and weave its way along the highways of America. Putnam is invading the hearts and minds of new fans every day as he continues a seemingly endless tour, with over 50 dates already booked for 2019, and more on the way. See below for The March Divide itinerary through April.

The lyric above opens “I Didn’t Mean It,” one of two brand-new The March Divide tunes that are out today as the second installment of Putnam’s “Distractions” series of singles. It’s poignant and visceral and goes to show the progression of Putnam’s songwriting over the years, a deeper, more personal, and risk-taking approach that he began to develop in earnest with his most recent full-length, 2018’s Anticipation Pops.

“I wanted this song to almost read like a suicide note, or a final conversation,” he says of the song, pulling no punches. “When you think of me, remember the good times, not all the ways I fucked up.”

Showing audiences more and more of what he’s about has helped The March Divide build a loyal following in the markets that Putnam frequently visits, and he’s not only a good showman on stage, he takes the time in-between songs and after the gig to connect with fans. It’s a personal touch that’s keeping him in business.

“People are almost always streaming music instead of popping in a CD or putting on a record,” he says. “But, I want to be a songwriter, not a t-shirt salesman, so I continue to push my physical sales. There are plenty of people out there that still want physical media, like me!”

He continues, saying, “‘Please form a single file line at the merch table, no pushing or shoving, please, there is plenty for everyone,’ is generally what I’ll say from the stage at the end of my set. It makes people laugh, so I just keep using it. After that, I walk around the room, and make a point to talk to every group of people. I even go outside and talk to the smokers.”

It’s Putnam’s affable way of grinding it out and hustling that has allowed him to do the thing most touring songwriters are unable to do, which is to keep on doing it at all. His growing fanbase funds the tour and their belief and appreciation of Putnam’s work has pushed him to his best songwriting to date. Putnam is a prolific artist, with four full-lengths, several EPs, a string of cover tunes, and now the “Distractions” series over a mere six years or so. He finds creative ways to get his tunes out.

‘Distractions’ is something I came up with as a way to continue to release the music I’m working on, between albums,” he explains. “The name refers to the fact that when I’m writing and recording these songs, it’s usually a distraction from the things that I feel like I should be doing, like the business part of what I do. But at the end of the day, writing and recording is all I ever want to do anyway.”

The new two-song single “Distractions Vol. 2” by The March Divide is out today. Anticipation Pops, the fourth full-length album by The March Divide is also out now, both via Slow Start Records. “Distractions Vol. 3” is in the works. Look for Jared Putnam out on the road throughout 2019.
