About Eric & Magill

All Those I Know is rooted in a skewed but highly successful method of re-establishing the communal aspect of folk music...” – The Onion

All Those I Know, the debut album by Eric & Magill, is a true testament to the power of technology and the strength of friendships. From its colorful and sweeping soundscapes to its quiet whispers, All Those I Know is a captivating record that demonstrates the experiences of its creators and collaborators from beginning to end.

Eric & Magill principals Ryan Weber and Eric Osterman have been making names for themselves and forming the relationships that weave the fabric of All Those I Know for years. Beginning in 1998 as members of the “post-emo-neo-spacepop” band Camden, Weber and Osterman made two records with Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla and toured constantly with The Promise Ring, Pele, and The Gloria Record among others.

Following Camden’s demise, Weber became a member of The Promise Ring for the band’s career defining Wood/Water album recorded for the revered Anti- Records label with legendary producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, The Cranberries). Weber then went on to co-found the band Decibully and produce four of the band’s albums.

In 2007, Weber took a break and took his bags and skills to Armenia to volunteer as an instructor of audio design. It was during this time that Weber’s career came full circle as he started writing songs over e-mail with former Camden guitarist Eric Osterman. Through this process, Weber also began to collaborate with many more of the musical friends he had made over the years, including some of the most well respected and acclaimed artists in indie rock.

The resulting album All Those I Know features collaborations with artists responsible for creating such bands as Shearwater, The Dirty Projectors, Volcano Choir, Pele, Owen, Joan of Arc, Cap’n Jazz, Via Tania, Headlights, Sufjan Stevens, The Promise Ring, Vermont, Dashboard Confessional, Braid, Hey Mercedes, The Gloria Record, Mineral, Zookeeper, Parts and Labor, Volcano, I’m Still Excited, Americans UK, Decibully, and many more. In addition to these musicians, Weber created an internet choir comprised of over forty friends singing into their computers from around the world.

“Fans of shadowy dream-pop will be pleased to discover San Jose's Lady Lazarus … Her voice is lovely...” – Brian Howe, Pitchfork

San Jose’s Melissa Ann Sweat recently drove cross-country, relocating to Savannah, Georgia to form new roots for her music project, Lady Lazarus.  The multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist (she plays all of the instruments on her debut album Mantic) will also see her poetry published in two literary magazines this winter just as she begins a string of regional live dates around her new hometown.

Sweat began Lady Lazarus in 2008 when she started teaching herself keyboard, and writing and recording songs in her San Francisco studio apartment. She had been an artist and writer nearly all her life and credits her fluidity in picking up songwriting to her long-time interest in writing poetry.

Despite music being a new foray for Sweat, Lady Lazarus has received some impressive early local and national attention with a favorable Pitchfork track review of “The Eye In The Eye of The Storm” (LINK) and an intimate and charming performance for the expertly filmed One Night Music series (LINK).

The Lady Lazarus album Mantic will receive a national release on January 18th, 2011 via the artist’s own Apartment Life Records and Sweat’s poetry will appear in December issues of Outlet (www.outlet-mag.com) and The Broken City (www.thebrokencitymag.com).  Lady Lazarus will also be playing regional shows around the East coast in support of Mantic throughout the winter.  See below for dates.

Lady Lazarus is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“These guys sounded so good that they cut through the din of South By Southwest from 100 yards away...” – Wired

We Were The States had nearly completed the recording of its new album Rasa when the Nashville floods came. With two feet of water in the basement of Coat of Arms studio, the band went from euphoric to discouraged, thinking the record they had worked on for two years would be indefinitely derailed.

Regrouping at Nashville’s Club Roar studio, the Murfreesboro-based five-piece quickly prepped for very long hours on a very limited budget, but ultimately persevered. The resulting album captures all of the energy and precise abandon of the band’s much-loved live show while also reflecting the realistic frustrations of their situation.  It’s a tense record, but still a joy to listen to.

Working with producers Jesse Newport and Daniel Feese, We Were The States vocalist Justin Webb was encouraged to approach the songs he wrote for Rasa like he had never heard them before. Webb explains that Feese gave him the freedom to try all of the ideas he had in his head.

“A specific example from the record would be ‘Daft Since ‘77’, a song I had the words for, but didn’t know how I wanted to hit on the chorus.” In its completed form, the chorus explodes just how it’s meant to, expressing Webb’s restlessness perfectly amid just the right amount of rock n’ roll sheen.

For as easy as that chorus comes, it’s surprising to find out that when Webb first met guitarist Jay Stoyanov and formed We Were The States, he never even planned on becoming the band’s singer.  “I only wanted to play guitar,” Webb says. “I eventually dropped guitar all together tho -- when we play live, I only sing.”

The band is the better for it ultimately, with Webb allowed the freedom to perform as a true front man. On Rasa, his captivating vocals are unhampered above the mature, layered, and just plain big sound that the band has achieved on the album -- a distinctive step forward from its debut record. “I know it took me a few years, but with this album I really felt comfortable being myself,” Webb says.

We Were The States is back to feeling euphoric and is ready to play live again.  Wired Magazine previously said of the band’s show that “These guys sounded so good that they cut through the din of South By Southwest from 100 yards away...” These guys are looking forward to continuing to leave that impression with the release of Rasa on Austin’s Chicken Ranch Records.

We Were The States is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

Unlike your typical scruffy indie band, fashion plays an integral role in the Minneapolis band Dearling Physique, allowing the band members to assume multiple roles and identities, or as band front man Domino Davis terms it in the most elegant sense, to “become numerous.”

This sense is brought to life in Dearling Physique’s upcoming video for “Discipline Your Hands,” (MP3) the first single from the band’s Deadeye Dealer album, out January 11, 2011.  The production is an intensely detailed one with gorgeous knitwear garments created especially for the shoot by rising fashion star Kevin Kramp (www.kevinkramp.com).

The “Discipline Your Hands” production stills shot by fashion photographer Shuttertrip (www.shuttertrip.net) give a glimpse into Dearling Physique’s visual interpretation of the altered concepts of memory and identity that haunt the characters on Deadeye Dealer.

The “Discipline Your Hands” single by Dearling Physique is out now.  The video for the clip and the Deadeye Dealer album are set for release on January 11th, 2011.

Domino Davis is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

More about Dearling Physique

A hybrid of mysterious, sensual rhythms; a soundtrack for the dark untraveled corners hidden beneath the gentle reflections of a pulsating metropolis... such is the musical landscape of Minneapolis band, Dearling Physique. Avant-garde but accessible, dark yet uplifting, Dearling Physique is a band that manipulates genres, effortlessly gliding between ambient sounds and electronica, from alternative pop to soul, while defying preconceived notions of conventional music.

Led by enigmatic front man, Domino Davis, the band has built an alluring reputation for captivating and challenging audiences. It’s this flair for visual and musical complexities that has fueled Dearling Physique’s local success, prompting the Minneapolis City Pages to proclaim Davis “...a forward-thinking artist capable of merging unlikely genres and audiences to great effect.”

These musical complexities can be found all over “Discipline Your Hands,” (MP3) the first single from Dearling Physique’s upcoming full-length debut album, Deadeye Dealer.  The band’s visual complexities haven’t gone unnoticed either – Hugo Boss recently selected a Dearling Physique song to appear on the company’s website and custom giveaway Hugo Boss iPods handed out in Berlin.

As Dearling Physique has done previously, the band plans a rigorous performance schedule surrounding the release of Deadeye Dealer. Dearling Physique has performed in the past with notable artists such as The Noisettes, Bat For Lashes and Saul Williams and will capture and envelop audiences with their elegant, unconventional form of musical synesthesia once again in the new year.
