The Shimmies Press

The Shimmies are probably without question the most talented band I’ve seen in this part of the country.” – Bill Fishkin, Synthesis Magazine

“…a truly genuine and emotional take on well-written rock music.” – Listen Before You Buy

“Like many albums of our generation, To All Beloved Enemies is a throwback, not to a forgotten genre, but rather to a time when a musician wasn’t something just anyone could be, a time when pop music was written by a chosen few tortured ambassadors to the human condition.” – Craig Gordon, The Delta Mirror

About The Shimmies

+++

Still maturing from a childhood project that combined brothers Sean and Jimmy Galloway’s first names, The Shimmies have created a self-appointed genre for themselves, which they lovingly refer to as “home school rock.” Much the way a home schooled child’s take on a book may have less to do with the collective opinion of their peers, so does The Shimmies’ take on pop music stand apart from the collective pretense of our generation.

Sean and Jimmy started out in the late 90’s as an acoustic two piece, and before that as kids trying to perfect difficult harmonies by panning Simon and Garfunkel’s Wednesday Morning 3AM on their small cassette deck boom box. They’ve since plugged in and added younger brother Stephen on bass and long time friend Jack Gingerich on drums.

The Shimmies’ music has come a long way since inception, but its defining characteristic remains angelic harmonies from the bands two front men, giving them a magical quality similar to that of The Avett Brothers or Fleet Foxes, with an overall sound that garners comparisons to the likes of Band of Horses, Jeff Buckley, and Sigur Ros.

Presently, The Shimmies’ sights are set on sharing their music with a greater audience, with national release of To All Beloved Enemies along with an upcoming tour of the US in late 2010. While other bands look to the future or to a time before they were born for inspiration, The Shimmies continue to make their home school rock. Rather than steal from their parents music, they’ve updated the music they grew up with, adding a more contemporary anthemic quality to our favorite 90’s memories.

More About Fanatic Records Artists:

Plant City, Florida’s Shunda K is best known as the original voice of hip-hop duo, Yo! Majesty (Domino Records). The “Here I Am To Save The World” maxi-single featuring Cindy Wonderful of Scream Club is culled from Shunda K’s upcoming solo album debut and includes remixes by up and coming producers, Scripts ‘N Screwz, Nite Club, and The New Loud.

Lachi hails from Brooklyn and has been making a ruckus in NYC for the last several years with her brand of tunes that evoke a jazzier Alanis Morrisette, Regina Spektor or sometimes Kelly Clarkson. Lachi is also an activist on behalf of blind musicians. As a blind artist herself, Lachi acts locally as her live band is also made up of visually “empowered” musicians.

Red Wanting Blue has been called the hardest working band in America. After a decade on the road, the band had passed on many label offers before finding a match with Fanatic. The band’s These Magnificent Miles album was produced by Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson, REM.)

Fanatic Records is the next-step evolution of Fanatic Promotion, a NYC public relations agency started in 1997 that has come to be known as a vital source in the industry for discovering new talent. The label is distributed in North America by EMI/Caroline.

More about Lachi:

New York City-based singer and musician, Lachi, will release her first studio album on July 27, 2010 and will play a very special record release show at famed NYC venue, Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette St.) tomorrow, July 22nd, at 9:30PM. Go HERE for more info.

The self-titled album, produced by Lachi herself, captures the West African-born songstress’s knack for blending hauntingly honest and personal lyrics with breezy, appealing melodies. Lachi’s alluring vocals are complemented by her command of the piano.

“Since I was four, my piano has been my escape. I felt invisible at school, but when I came home, I’d line all of my dolls up beside my cheap, plastic piano and put on these passionate, therapeutic performances for my dolls, but they were really for me.” Lachi explains. “Sometimes I still go to a piano room at NYU and turn out all the lights, lock the doors, and just laugh or cry hysterically in front of the piano and see what happens.”

The album is a long-awaited release from Lachi, who has been performing throughout the Northeast and New York City since 2007, when she started playing at open mics. Legally blind and supported by blind band members, Lachi’s sociopolitical and poignant lyrics are often inspired by the stigmas of her visual impairment.

Lachi also works to promote and further the careers of other blind musicians in the New York City area. Lachi has taken it upon herself to uncover and bring together some of the finest talent New York City’s blind community has to offer.

“Hopefully the release of Lachi will help get some of these incredible musicians recognized,” she says.

NYC band Julius C doesn’t go on the kind of tour most bands go on. For the last several years, the band has spent the hot months touring summer camps. Band leader Jay Stollar developed the “Rock Star Camp” program to bring more arts activities to summer camps after spending his youth hoping for such an experience. Five years into the program, the band is now sponsored by the Crocs brand of footwear and is traveling to more than two dozen camps on the East Coast where they spend the day with the campers teaching them cover songs and staging a concert with the young singers and musicians.

This year, Julius C expects to perform to almost 15,000 campers and staff. The band returns to NYC at the end of August where they will begin a residency at Rockwood Music Hall to be followed by the release of the band’s OK, OK. album in October. Before the writing and recording of Julius C’s OK, OK., this band was already going bananas. The band’s core of vocalist/guitarist Jay Stolar, bassist Mike Tuccillo and Tuccillo’s childhood friend, keyboardist Jason Wexler had rapidly expanded to a group of ten, just as quickly burned through four drummers, and finally managed to top that off with a couple of painful personal break-ups that left the guys feeling empty, lost, and disconnected from the music they were playing.

Willing to give it one last try, the guys moved into a cheap house with a broken Jacuzzi in Newark, NJ with new drummer, John Adamski. By the end of the year, Stolar and Tuccillo had both written enough material to fill their own records. Returning to Tucclillo and Wexler’s hometown of Staten Island, Julius C spent the next six months consumed in writing, arranging, and producing OK, OK. Now, standing united and determined, Julius C is ready to share their sound with the world. No more imploding, only exploding (and chest-beating) from here.

More about Julius C’s Don’t Want Anybody” video

A group of gorillas has run amok in Central Park and it’s no surprise considering they’re listening to the perfect soundtrack for the summer: Julius C’s debut single “Don’t Want Anybody.” Directed by New York-based filmaker, Jay Lap, a friend of the band since his days at the prestigious Tisch school, the “Don’t Want Anybody” clip is about as fun and funny as you might expect from a band that is able to take a tune about love, loss, and self-discovery and render it as explosively raw pop.

“Don’t Want Anybody” was shot by Jon Chen, one of the hottest NYC-based directors of photography working today. Chen has previously lensed music videos for Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Q-Tip, The Roots, and many more. You might also recognize actress, Lauren Francesca (the unmistakably sexy blonde) as the star of the Lady Gaga video spoofs that have racked up millions of views on YouTube. Most of all, you’ll notice that bunch of simians, out of their minds with abandon. Beneath the suits, you’ll find the members of Julius C.

About Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound

Hailing from the heart of Southern California’s desert wasteland, Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound brings their apocalyptic message to mass attention by any means necessary. Influenced by the likes of radio host Art Bell, Robert Anton Wilson, Teddy and Terry Riley (no relation), Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound merges noisy synths, discordant guitars, and percussive machinery with the precision and transcendence of dark ritual.

Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound formed in 2004 with multi-instrumentalist Ramiro Zapata and drum machine Adrian Laguna. After six years, over 500 shows, and a revolving cast of their friends and cultist-like followers, maximalist Lvis Pe Rez and sound conjurer Sergio Camarena balanced the scales. Collectively, Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound taps into the kind of desperation born of Southern California: vapid consumerism, gang violence and social apathy. The sweeping vision of these young men is to create music that challenges the expectation of the listener, leaving one with the sort of uneasiness usually reserved for personal epiphany or witness to a violent crime.

Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound’s debut EP Damnant Quod Non Intelligunt carries a distinct aesthetic rooted in the ethos and imagery of the film “Koyaanisqatsi,” which translates into “Life Out of Balance.” The clash of humanity versus nature, the organic vs. synthetic, order into chaos, such is the music of Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound.

About Red Wanting Blue:

Columbus, Ohio’s Red Wanting Blue played an intense, sold-out show to their ever-growing league of faithful fans at NYC’s Mercury Lounge this past Thursday. Photos of the performance can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/rwb-mercury-lounge-07-08-10. Anticipation is running high for the band’s These Magnificent Miles album hitting stores on July 27th, 2010. An album trailer (more like a mini-documentary) was recently completed and can be viewed here: http://vimeo.com/13088531.

Red Wanting Blue has been touring the heart of America for over a decade. The band, led by Scott Terry and voiced by his gifted baritone, has self-released several records in that time and built a loyal following for its version of roots rock. Throughout, Red Wanting Blue fielded label offers from indies and majors alike, but never found a suitable partner until now.

Fanatic Records has fallen in love with the band’s These Magnificent Miles album and will give it a national release on July 27th, 2010. Fanatic will also issue a deluxe double-LP edition of These Magnificent Miles with full-color LP sleeves in a gatefold jacket. Red Wanting Blue will begin to expand its touring to new markets this summer to support the album.

Produced by Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson, REM) in Columbus and mixed in Los Angeles, These Magnificent Miles captures the feel and sound of Red Wanting Blue live — an addictive show that has earned the band a loyal following which stomps, cheers and sings along. It’s an album for all of the musicians who live life on the road and lifts the veil on what it means to be an underdog in a touring rock band.

Red Wanting Blue’s relatable story is now the subject of a feature-length documentary being produced by Davenport Theatrical (Avenue Q, Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome America, Altar Boyz) that draws its focus on the band’s tireless stamina and dedication. “There is a romance to this circus life,” Terry says. “With a little luck, and a lot of support from the greatest fans a band could have, we hope to ride this open road like a hammer into history.”
