J Hacha De Zola teams up with Euro-glitch artists Remy Joel and Denis Volnov for the “El Chucho (Hooko)” music video.

“I love glitch art, an exciting art form where digital data is corrupted through the physical manipulation of electronic devices to produce errors or ‘glitches’ for aesthetic visual purposes,” Hacha De Zola explains. “The result is distorted, mind bending, or even disturbing, imagery which is why this art form best fits this particular song.”

J Hacha De Zola | About

“This is an ‘Urban Junkyard’ record.”

It’s a descriptor that J Hacha De Zola has been casually using over the course of three album releases. With the new full–length Icaro Nouveau (out now), the Jersey City–based musician defines the genre in detail.

Produced by iconic engineer John Agnello, a career–long cohort of another “J” – J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr – and more recently the man behind albums by Waxahatchee, the new Hacha De Zola songs are described by the artist as full of “villains, spells, desires, romance, danger, redemption, and revelations.”

“The way I go about making an ‘Urban Junkyard’ record is through my ‘Reductive Synthesis’ method,” Hacha De Zola explains of his approach to record-making. “I’ll borrow structures from existing musical forms, break ‘em up, and then recombine them. I’ll sit in the producer’s chair next to a master producer like John Agnello and then bring in my cabal of musical associates. I honestly let the session players play whatever they want over these structures and just have ‘em all throw the kitchen sink at it. I am an enabler!”

J Hacha De Zola’s fourth full-length album Icaro Nouveau is out now. The artist’s current EP ‘Syn Illusión,’ a four-song, 80s-era synth-driven, all-Spanish language release, is also available now.
