Yves Lambert, one of the most influential and legendary players in Quebec’s traditional roots music scene, announces the upcoming US release of Laissez courir les chiens, the latest album with his group, Yves Lambert Trio on June 24th.

Lambert, who fronts the trio on lead vocals, diatonic button accordions, harmonica, jaw harp, and percussion, was one of the founding members of traditional French Canadian folk group La Bottine Souriante in 1976.  Lambert toured the world with La Bottine Souriante, honing his charismatic ability to translate anecdotal, poetic, and political texts into songs, while accumulating over a half–million records sold, three Juno Awards (Canada’s Grammy), and a BBC Music Award for “Best Traditional Album” and “Group of the Year” in the process.

Lambert then “sent shockwaves throughout the artistic world” according to Quebec City’s French language daily paper Le Soleil, when he departed La Bottine Souriant and surrounded himself with new local talents, creating the Bébert Orchestra in 2004 and releasing Récidive, which went on to win the Félix (awarded by ADISQ – Quebec’s recording industry association) for “Best Traditional Album of the Year.”  Le Monde à Lambert followed in 2007, and Bal à l’Huile arrived in 2009, with both albums picking up prizes at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

In 2010, Lambert formed the Yves Lambert Trio with longtime Bébert Orchestra members Tommy Gauthier (violin, mandolin, bouzouki, and feet) and Olivier Rondeau, and road-tested the new combo on a month-long Canadian tour in the summer of that year.  Encouraged by charmed audiences and the pleasure of challenging themselves musically, the group affirmed its distinctive personality on the appropriately titled Trio album release in 2012, picking up another Félix for “Best Traditional Album of the Year.”

Now, Lambert, Rondeau and Gauthier offer up the second Yves Lambert Trio album Laissez courir les chiens.  The album track “Suite pour Justin” is comprised of a trio of instrumentals composed by Gauthier for his son, Justin, is streaming now via Elmore Magazine.

Those who haven’t had the opportunity to discover Lambert during his 40-year musical career traveling the world will undoubtedly soon fall for his charisma and talent, coupled with the virtuosity and passion of Gauthier and Rondeau, that rounds out the Yves Lambert Trio.  By reviving undiscovered songs and adding their own energy, the group is sure to bring new fans to this music, and to the trio’s unparalleled live show (see full itinerary below with US dates in bold), continuing a tradition Lambert began many years ago.

Laissez courir les chiens by Yves Lambert Trio arrives in the US on June 24th, 2016Yves Lambert is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
