Sleepy Vikings has stirred up its hometown of Tampa with the debut album They Will Find You Here. Local papers Creative Loafing and The Tampa Tribune have both recently acknowledged the band with cover stories. Now Sleepy Vikings will start to show more of the nation what Tampa already knows by launching its first tour with dates extending throughout the month and covering much of the east coast. See below for a complete list of dates.
For the uninitiated, the Creative Loafing cover story on Sleepy Vikings does a great job of illustrating the control and out-of-control that makes the band unique on the musical landscape and easily adored. In the piece, the band talks about having to hurriedly finish writing a set of songs to play its first show ever – a chance opportunity in 2009 to open for the Vivian Girls. The success of this risk led to an opportunity to perform in Canada at NXNE, a show they drove 26 hours to play in front of a half-dozen people.
It turned out that half of that half were bloggers who loved the set, leading to an invite for Sleepy Vikings to perform in the Paste Magazine offices. A record deal with local label New Granada Records followed and the debut album They Will Find You Here was released on May 10th, 2011.
