Truthfully, it’s hiding in plain sight. The music that Super Mirage makes could be what wakes Brooklyn up from its post-hipster slumber and makes its residents unfold their arms and dance again. It’s pure fun, but before you think that the members of Super Mirage are nothing but pinups, please note that duel lead vocalists Nathan Leigh and Kyle Jarrow are the real deal.
Leigh, a noted theater composer and sound designer, and Jarrow an Obie Award-winning playwright, know a thing or two about theatrics and delivering a show that fires on all cylinders. The band often adds burlesque dancers and costumed backup singers to its live shows just like a boy band might, right? OK, maybe not the burlesque, but you get the picture. It’s about F-U-N.
Super Mirage will give a national release to their Pretty Lies album on 11/16 and its first single “Song For A Go-Go Girl” (MP3) lives up to the quote above in every way. It’s sunny but dark, shimmering but gritty, tuneful but toxic. Just like life -- the exciting lives, anyway.
