About Batwings Catwings

Amidst the blood, cocaine, and Botox soaked tapestry of L.A., the members of Batwings Catwings hail from all over the US and converge upon the wasteland of Southern California to give underground dwellers a reason to shake and sweat. Following the release of “Endless Summer,” the first single and video from the band’s debut EP, Peacock Collection, the track was promptly remixed by Jacob Safari (Wavves, Mae Shi). This remix (heard HERE) recently debuted at My Old Kentucky Blog (LINK) and coincides with the release of “Misbehaving,” (MP3) the latest rave-up of a single from the EP.

All of this music gives but an indication of the intensity of the Batwings Catwings live experience which will descend upon Austin, Texas during SXSW 2011.  Batwings Catwings will make numerous appearances during the week, most notably at Dom’y Books on March 18th at the showcase of trend-setting Los Angeles punk rock venue, The Smell. As usual, Batwings Catwings is continuing to cut a path straight through the high dollar hustle of Hollywood to the art galleries and punk houses that are known by only the most discerning ears.

Fronted by the tiny, yet fierce dance commander Dana Poblete, an everygirl with the ability to entrance audiences from Los Angeles to the hell mouths of Mexico’s border towns, she is backed by guitarist and UCLA professor Pepper Glass who wields his axe with the devastating accuracy of his feared red correction pen.   On the drums is L.A. blogger Clay Johnson, who cut his teeth drumming for about every metal band on the northern Midwest’s arctic front.  The newest member, Josh Crampton rounds out the lineup on bass, diversifying the sound even further with his sexy funk and shoegaze influences.

Batwings Catwings’ first EP, Peacock Collection is out now IndianGold Records.  Recorded at L.A.’s famous Infrasonic Studios by Daniel Haworth and engineered by Pete Lyman (No Age, Best Coast, Abe Vigoda), Peacock Collection is a totem of modernist punk – noisy as hell with a tinge of pop and a nod to the punk rock roots of the L.A. underground.

Batwings Catwings is available for interviews.  Contact Corey Gingerich at Fanatic for more information.

“My Light” (feat. Tan) is the latest single from Shunda K’s solo album debut, “The Most Wanted”

“I’m Da Best” is the second single from Shunda K’s solo album debut, “The Most Wanted”

+++

Shunda K’s debut solo album The Most Wanted dropped worldwide on January 11th and the latest single from the record, “My Light” (MP3) featuring the bombastic female UK rapper, Tan, is already causing a commotion. The shooting of the video for the album’s second single “I’m Da Best” recently wrapped its Florida production and has now moved to Los Angeles for another week of shooting under the direction of Steven Andrew Garcia of The Masses (wearethemasses.com).

Garcia informs us that the clip   “…will be featuring select wardrobe items from legendary fashion designer, Brian Lichtenberg (LINK) who has worked with some amazing artists like Peaches, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, MIA, and many others. Also, Trillon Galloway, who recently was featured in Michael Jackson’s last video, ‘Hold My Hand (feat. Akon)’ will play one of our main bullies.” See Lady Gaga wearing a Lichtenberg necklace in a still from her “Poker Face” video HERE. Also appearing in the clip is child actor Ian Hamrick, famously featured in MIA’s controversial “Born Free” video. See Hamrick discussing his role in that video courtesy of TMZ at: http://www.tmz.com/2010/04/29/m-i-a-mia-music-video-red-head-kid-violence-born-free-video-ian-hamrick.

Shunda K’s “I’m Da Best” clip is a direct assault on the Westboro Baptist Church (WIKI) and concerns a young boy who is harassed, called “faggot” by his peers, faces even more tension at home and how, with the help of his faith and the support of his role models Shunda K and Shon B, he overcomes these obstacles to stand tall. The video is Shunda K’s contribution to the ongoing “It Gets Better” Project (itgetsbetter.org) started by famed syndicated sex columnist Dan Savage as a place where young people who are lesbian, gay, bi, or trans can see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future.

To date, the project has received submissions from celebrities, organizations, activists, politicians and media personalities, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Colin Farrell, Matthew Morrison of “Glee”, Joe Jonas, Joel Madden, Ke$ha, Sarah Silverman, Tim Gunn, Ellen DeGeneres, and Suze Orman among many others.  The video for “I’m Da Best” will debut in mid-January.  More stills from the clip can viewed HERE.

Shunda K’s debut solo album The Most Wanted arrives on the heels of two Shunda K mixtapes downloaded thousands of times each, US and Australian dates opening for electro superstar Peaches, a collab on the track and video for the Peaches song “Billionaire”, and the NME naming Shunda K to its “Cool List” and earmarking The Most Wanted’s first single “Here I Am To Save The World” as one of “10 Tracks You Need To Hear”.

Wake Up Lucid In The Press

“If their demos are any indication of what’s in store, we’re expecting raunchy rock at it’s best.” – Rolling Stone

“Forging a fresh take on funk, while bronzing the best in blues, this heavy trio’s stripped-down sound earns their renown.” – Performer Magazine

“...it’s exactly the kinda thing your folks might’ve been listening to at the moment of your conception.” – My Old Kentucky Blog

‘Look Alive People’ affirms the muscle of a good old-fashioned power trio. …Wake Up Lucid is pretty ripped.” – Kevin Bronson, Buzzbands LA

“...the bleary-eyed intensity of a late 60’s biker-band combo, recalling both the blues rock of the early Stones and the proto-punk of the Stooges.” – iTunes

About Wake Up Lucid

L.A.’s Wake Up Lucid started as a vision of singer/guitarist Ryan Baca’s father, who had passed years earlier.  In the dream, they wrote a song together, and the name of the song was “Wake Up Lucid.”
Since that fateful night in 2008, Ryan and his two cousins Ian Baca (Bass) and Jamie Baca (Drums) have quickly burned their names into the rock and roll conscience of Southern California with an old school brew of savage blues, heavy rhythm, and the kind of down home sincerity long lost to corporate Nu-Metal, how-to-play-guitar videos, and ten thousand dollar “vintage” guitar amps.

In the two years since Wake Up Lucid’s inception, the band has already gained recognition from Rolling Stone, Performer, My Old Kentucky Blog and many others.  Following up their 2009, all-analog EP “Look Alive People,” Wake Up Lucid is back with a new EP entitled “Sugar,” once again tracked live at the famed Village Recorder Studios.

“They called us up the night before and said we could record one song,” says Ryan, “We were so hungry to get in there, we ended up recording five songs, recording right over our last master because we couldn’t get any more tape!”

Yes, it’s true.  Crank “Sugar” up, and in between songs you’ll hear the drum tracks from Wake Up Lucid’s previous EP, “Look Alive People.” In case you were questioning Wake Up Lucid’s rock n’ roll authenticity -- it doesn’t get any more raw than this.

Currently, Wake Up Lucid is already back in the studio tracking for an upcoming debut full-length.  The future is definitely bright for this rock and roll family, as Ryan Baca states, “Our dads were brothers. We grew up watching them play together, and doing this just keeps up that family tradition.”

Wake Up Lucid is available for interviews.  Contact Corey Gingerich at Fanatic for more information.
