In a word: Innovative.

You hear a lot of bands talk about how they are trying to break the mold of the music industry and are providing listeners with music that is really something unique and different. But how many of them are actually doing what they say? Listening to Primal Static's The Curtain Of Many Faces, the duo of Greg Thuman and HouFei Yang create songs that combine blues-rock and trance dance beats and give you something completely different with each track on the album. It's blues guitar-meets-Fruit Loops, and if you were on the hunt for something new, look no further than Primal Static.

"Love Drone" gives you a taste of the blues, yet the very next track, "Dream Arabic," really shows off what Thuman does with his sound manipulation talents. It is like an electro-jam where the guitar provides an infectious melody, and the beats hold the song down and your interest as well. Songs like "Shelter" provide blues vocals over guitar swells, a mandolin solo and sweet beats really showing off what Primal Static is about. It's a trippy combination any band has yet to make, which is what makes Thuman and Yang true innovators in the music world.

" Thuman leads Primal Static with his raw vocals, blues guitar and love of dance beats, while Yang accompanies him on keyboard and bass. Yang, who lived in China until she came to the U.S. at age 18, is a classically trained pianist who shows off her skills on "Enimia," where the piano creates the bass line for the song. Thuman and Yang stick to anything but a classical approach to things. They have a novel method of creating new music with their combination of sounds that makes them stand out from any other band in the music scene today. Each track on The Curtain Of Many Faces stands out for the sheer fact each one is different from the next making the album one that should stand out in the indie music world."

Praise already received for Rykarda Parasol’s For Blood and Wine:

“You should listen to Rykarda Parasol if you don’t already. This is gorgeous, gothy, dark, sensual stuff...” – Crawdaddy.com

“Her music owes much to Nick Cave, but while he is grotesque and gothy, like some erudite, cave-dwelling mutant, Parasol’s more a precious vixen -- an inhumanly elegant entity that emerges from an ice palace each sunset, poured into a smoky evening gown, ready to wield her piercing stare in the service of some unsavory end..” – San Francisco Weekly

“...Rykarda Parasol is at once raw and earnest, sensual and callous with just enough wit and wry humor to make it all go down sweet and easy. For Blood and Wine is an intoxicating swig of bitters and a trace of lipstick on a stubbled cheek.” – The Big Takeover

Born of a holocaust orphan and distant Swedish royalty, Rykarda Parasol uses her life story and a love of literature to craft music that is vacuously dark while simultaneously a celebration of life and its vices.

With a voice and lyrics compared to the likes of a female Nick Cave, and drawing influence from The Doors, Serge Gainsbourg, and Oscar Wilde, Parasol describes her music as “rock noir,” evoking moody cinema drenched in gin and white-collar crime. Parasol’s nature is strong, her prose is starkly sincere, and she could drink Tom Waits under the table.

Parasol’s new self-produced album For Blood and Wine is a true-life narrative depicting the progress and downward spiral of a rake, which in this case is female. “It’s witty, darkly romantic, edgy and elegant… It’s tales of infidelity, addiction, and death. Mostly sad, but some real moments of joy and hope,” Parasol states.

“…it's the simple, startling vulnerability of ‘Be My Friend Always’ that could make Foster a contender for the This Generation's Laura Nyro title…” – Mary Leary, San Diego Reader

Houston native Sarah Elizabeth Foster began studying music at the age of four. A classically trained vocalist, pianist and ballerina, she grew up performing in church and school choirs, winning numerous awards. But along the way, Sarah found it was other genres of music that truly inspired her. After perfecting her vocal technique with a degree in music, singing in French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, Sarah embarked on extensive travels throughout Asia and Europe expanding her cultural horizons. All this being an irrepressible quest to turn towards the music that inspired her and to fulfill her ultimate dream of a life as a singer/songwriter in New York City. Where now, for the first time, Sarah unearths words and melodies that are all her own.

See Sarah Elizabeth Foster performing live at the American Folk Art Museum in NYC (45 W 53rd St, btw 5th and 6th) on April 16th, 2010.

Gardening From The Ground Up Part 1 is Sarah’s first collection of deeply charged tunes. Filled with raw emotion and wistful reflection, the record hints liberally at Sarah’s stated influences which are rare for a singer-songwriter (Dusty Springfield, Sam Cooke, Judy Garland, and Edith Piaf) and her exceptionally broad vocal range -- moving effortlessly from crystal clear purity to shuttering vibrato -- places her in a league with contemporaries such as Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, Norah Jones and Feist. The record is an unusual acoustic blend of 60‘s-inspired pop, fresh folk and classical motifs wrapped around Sarah’s deep, pure vocals and emotionally rich, informed lyrics.
