“...Rykarda Parasol is at once raw and earnest, sensual and callous with just enough wit and wry humor to make it all go down sweet and easy. For Blood and Wine is an intoxicating swig of bitters and a trace of lipstick on a stubbled cheek.” – The Big Takeover
“Fans who take to her have done so fully, offering up comparisons to everything from Edith Piaf to a Tarantino movie soundtrack, two auteurs with similar niche appeal”. – Venus
“The ‘rock noir’ chanteuse from San Francisco is all about shadowy atmosphere... weirdly gorgeous.” – Falling James, Los Angeles Weekly
Born of a holocaust orphan and distant Swedish royalty, Rykarda Parasol uses her life story and a love of literature to craft music that is vacuously dark while simultaneously a celebration of life and its vices. With a voice and lyrics compared to the likes of a female Nick Cave, and drawing influence from The Doors, Serge Gainsbourg, and Oscar Wilde, Parasol describes her music as “rock noir,” evoking moody cinema drenched in gin and white-collar crime. Parasol’s nature is strong, her prose is starkly sincere, and she could drink Tom Waits under the table.
Parasol’s new self-produced album For Blood and Wine is a true-life narrative depicting the progress and downward spiral of a rake, which in this case is female. “It’s witty, darkly romantic, edgy and elegant… It’s tales of infidelity, addiction, and death. Mostly sad, but some real moments of joy and hope,” Parasol states.

At five-foot-eleven and looking every bit like the Swede she is, Salme Dahlstrom’s music isn’t the only thing that’s noticeable about her. The scales are tipping as Dahlstrom’s recent single “C’mon Y’All” has been practically inescapable after becoming the sound behind the latest Suave shampoo campaign. Airing during network broadcasts of everything from sporting events to awards shows, the tune has also been picked up to rep Juicy Couture. This in addition to spending six weeks on the Billboard dance charts and being featured on “The Hills.” The attention for “C’mon Y’All” hammers home Dahlstrom’s newfound demand as a songwriter and producer who ad execs connect with. The tune is the perfect sing-along shower song, so it’s no wonder its pimping shampoo.
To date, every song from Dahlstrom’s debut album, The Acid Cowgirl Audio Trade, has been synced to picture, resulting in a profile in The Wall Street Journal (http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2009/07/27/salme-dahlstrom-music-licensing-queen) about the accomplishment. At one time or another Dahlstrom‘s songs have been used by brands such as Vodafone, Nike, MTV, Chips Ahoy, Miller Lite, Subaru, Quiznos, Bank of America and TV and films such as “One Tree Hill,” “Veronica Mars,” “Laguna Beach,” “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” and “Ice Age 3”.
Like many pop songs that are used to hype products, “C’mon Y’all” started small. Dahlstrom writes, performs and produces her own music in her small NYC studio and while composing her album, Dahlstrom was blissfully unaware of the commercial potential of the music or even of the existence of the licensing game. “The ‘ooh la la’ hook (on ‘C’mon Y’All’) is something I came up with to get my infant daughter to smile,” Dahlstrom explains. “I did not set out to write a song that could be commercially viable. If I knew how to do that I would bottle it. My goal is to write great songs.”
While her music is becoming more well-known (“C’mon Y’All” has already moved thousands of downloads on iTunes since the Suave and Juicy campaigns began), it hasn’t spoiled Dahlstrom’s reasons for doing what she does. “I take music very seriously,” she says, “but I try not to take myself too seriously. I am here to have a good time. My album is meant to be an hour’s escape from the day-to-day. It’s got great sing-a-long choruses and fun, tongue in cheek lyrics with attitude that’ll put a smile on your face.”

FRED SCHNEIDER IS AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEWS. FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT JOSH BLOOM.
The Superions are the most exciting group to hit the music scene since Elvis or Lady GaGa (or Susan Boyle for that matter). Fred Schneider (of The B-52’s), Noah Brodie and Dan Marshall were just somewhat normal guys when their bodies, minds, and souls were taken over by alien beings from the planet Superion.
Now real talented, they perpetrated magic with their first digital single, “Totally Nude Island”. Take soft trade winds, a healthy dose of tropical passion, and a deadly volcano and voila!: an instant classic destined to sell millions, or a lot less, was born. Following on the heels of the multi-plat... er, real popular track, The Superions return with the new smash “Who Threw That Ham At Me” from their self-titled EP debut.
“Who doesn’t love a juicy, fatty, salty, canned ham covered in pineapple slices and those red dye #2 cherries?” asks music programmer Dan Marshall. “I don’t” says vocalist, lyricist Fred Schneider. “I’m a vegetarian.” “Where’s the sweet potatoes with marshmallows?” adds keyboardist Noah Brodie.
“Ham,” destined to be another hit (they hope), is a cautionary tale about the serious crime of shoplifting, set to a bouncy disco beat. Fred says: “It’s based on a true story someone told someone I know.” “Yeah, don’t do it!” says Dan with a stern countenance. “I saw a woman in a movie stick a big steak down her pants,” adds Noah. “We’ve created a new dance craze sure to sweep the nation called The Disco Garbage Can,” says Fred.

The Shondes record the soundtrack to Heartbreak Survival; "My Dear One" scheduled for release May 4, 2010
Title track available for free streaming and download now. Band set to perform at the Fanatic Records showcase at South by Southwest on March 16th.
In addition to making political art and melding influences as disparate as classical and traditional Jewish music and punk rock, The Shondes work for justice on many public levels, including in queer communities and as Jews fighting for a free Palestine. But, the band’s upcoming second album My Dear One is a more personal reminder that those who fight for what they feel passionately about still suffer heartbreak and require the intimacy of community and art to recover.
Both as individuals and as The Shondes, Louisa Solomon (bass, lead vocals), Elijah Oberman (violin), Temim Fruchter (drums) and guitarist Fureigh (guitar) have always chosen to explore this duality, to attempt the impossible, or at least, the inadvisable. “Shonde” is the Yiddish word for disgrace, after all. Heartbreak sucks and while My Dear One explores this in depth, the songs also explore questions about how each of us deserves to be treated and how we should treat each other.
