“Monster” is the second single from Deadeye Dealer by Dearling Physique

+++

“…imagine Toni Braxton fronting Nine Inch Nails. Or picture Prince and Joy Division collaborating...” – MTV Iggy

“…dark and hypnotic, sexy and sinister, an alluring sound that swallows you whole.” – The Onion

Minneapolis band, Dearling Physique, follows-up “Discipline Your Hands,” the first single and video from its recently released Deadeye Dealer album, with another compelling single, “Monster” (MP3). A hybrid of mysterious, sensual rhythms; a soundtrack for the dark untraveled corners hidden beneath the gentle reflections of a pulsating metropolis, the song is another avant-garde but accessible, dark yet uplifting song from the band’s debut album.

In addition to his work on Deadeye Dealer, Dearling Physique leader Domino Davis recently lent his unique vocal abilities to accomplished Swedish producer Fredrick Carlsson, who collaborated with Davis on the track “Into The Wild” (STREAM) from Carlsson’s latest EP, “Volume 1.” Carlsson claims to be mainly influenced by 80’s animation and glimmering 70’s roller disco and has produced a vast number of remixes ranging from indie-rock to electro bangers. The Kills, Digitalism, Phoenix, Au Revoir Simone, Mando Diao and many more have all been reworked by Carlsson touch.

Dearling Physique is a band that manipulates genres, effortlessly gliding between ambient sounds and electronica, from alternative pop to soul, while defying preconceived notions of conventional music. Led by enigmatic front man, Domino Davis, the band has built an alluring reputation for captivating and challenging audiences. It’s this flair for visual and musical complexities that has fueled Dearling Physique’s local and emerging national success.

Domino Davis is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

About Wake Up Lucid

Yes, it’s true.  Crank up Wake Up Lucid’s new “Sugar” EP, and in between songs you’ll hear the drum tracks from the band’s previous release, “Look Alive People.” In case you were questioning Wake Up Lucid’s rock n’ roll authenticity -- it doesn’t get any more raw than this.

L.A.’s Wake Up Lucid started as a vision of singer/guitarist Ryan Baca’s father, who had passed years earlier.  In the dream, they wrote a song together, and the name of the song was “Wake Up Lucid.”

Since that fateful night in 2008, Ryan and his two cousins Ian Baca (bass) and Jamie Baca (drums) have quickly burned their names into the rock and roll conscience of Southern California with an old school brew of savage blues, heavy rhythm, and the kind of down home sincerity long lost to corporate Nu-Metal, how-to-play-guitar videos, and ten thousand dollar “vintage” guitar amps.

In the two years since Wake Up Lucid’s inception, the band has already gained recognition from Rolling Stone, KEXP, My Old Kentucky Blog and many others.  Following up their 2009, all-analog EP “Look Alive People,” Wake Up Lucid is back with a new EP entitled “Sugar,” once again tracked live at the famed Village Recorder Studios.

“They called us up the night before and said we could record one song,” says front man Ryan Baca, “We were so hungry to get in there, we ended up recording five songs, recording right over our last master because we couldn’t get any more tape!”

Currently, Wake Up Lucid is already back in the studio tracking for an upcoming debut full-length.  The future is definitely bright for this rock and roll family, as Ryan Baca states, “Our dads were brothers. We grew up watching them play together, and doing this just keeps up that family tradition.”

Wake Up Lucid is available for interviews.  Contact Corey Gingerich at Fanatic for more information.

The original 2001 version and 2011’s re-make of “Confidentially” from John Brodeur’s Tiger Pop Ten

About John Brodeur and Tiger Pop Ten

“Pop records like this may be scarce, but when they are of this caliber, they won’t remain under the radar for long.” – Performing Songwriter

On April 5, 2011, New York musician John Brodeur will release Tiger Pop Ten, a two-CD set featuring a newly recorded version of his critically praised 2001 pop album Tiger Pop.  The new Tiger Pop Ten will be coupled with a 10th-anniversary reissue of the original disc.  Since the release of Tiger Pop a decade ago, Brodeur has made a reputation as a talented recording artist, first-class songwriter, and a restless multi-instrumentalist. 2001’s Tiger Pop was performed entirely by Brodeur, a true one-man-band effort in a time before everyone with a laptop could make that claim.

“I played all of the instruments myself out of stubbornness, but also out of necessity,” Brodeur says. “I guess I thought I had something to prove after years of making four-track demos in my parents’ basement.”

Tiger Pop’s pop smarts and try-anything production style caught the notice of many critics and earned Brodeur his place on stage with artists such as Fountains of Wayne, They Might Be Giants, Rooney, and Freedy Johnston among others, but by early 2010, Tiger Pop had been out of print for nearly five years. Brodeur had long promised himself that he would reissue the album for its tenth birthday. The newly recorded Tiger Pop Ten sprung from a long-running “what if” between Brodeur and the members of his longtime band, The Suggestions.

“We would often kid around about re-recording Tiger Pop,” says Brodeur. “Having a rhythm section behind the tunes gave them a new life. Some grooved differently, while others sounded like entirely different songs. It certainly appealed to the part of me that doesn’t know how to settle on ‘finished.’”

For this version of Tiger Pop, Brodeur is joined by a host of musicians including Adrian Cohen (Piano and String Arrangements), Keith Hosmer (Bass), Jennifer McCarron (Bass), Meghan Tully (Drums), Jason Schultz (Drums), and Eric Halder (Guitar). Brodeur adds an additional song, “Masterpiece,” to open Tiger Pop Ten, a tune written just as the original album was completed. The album was mixed and mastered by former Kamikaze Hearts member, Troy Pohl.

Tiger Pop Ten is a celebration of the relationships that went into it – something we can all share as a reminder of our time together,” Brodeur says of the collaborative nature of the new version. “Without road maps – the original Tiger Pop sessions were quite carefully plotted – the songs found their own identities. They’re still part of my DNA, but they’ve also become their own beings.”

So here you have it – two different versions of the same album: one recorded over twelve long months by an ambitious 20-something, the other recorded in a few weekends by a group of friends whose collective talents made everything a breeze. Maybe he’ll do it again in another 10 years. John Brodeur’s Tiger Pop Ten will be released on April 5, 2011Brodeur will launch a US tour in support of the release in February.

John Brodeur is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“When You Knew Me When” is the first single from Emily Arin’s Patch of Land

+++

About Emily Arin

“I think Emily Arin’s voice is just flat-out birdlike. If I could choose the soundtrack to my REM sleep, I think it would sound like this.” – Kim Ruehl, No Depression

Emily Arin is our newest crush to emerge from the venerable school of dusky, graceful songwriting.” – Alan Pedder, Wears the Trousers

With a plaintive, delicate voice, Montour Falls, New York’s, Emily Arin weaves tales concerned with the heavy graces of being human. Working with noted producers, Brian McTear (Matt Pond PA, Sharon Van Etten) and Greg Weeks (Espers), Arin has crafted songs with a wide-ranging mix of influences, from Hank Williams and Memphis Minnie to Nick Drake, Caetano Veloso, Tom Waits, Sybille Baier and Gillian Welch on her debut studio album, Patch of Land, available February 8th, 2011.

In recent years, Arin’s songs have captured the attention of radio luminary, Vin Scelsa (“Idiot’s Delight,” WFUV), who said “‘When You Knew Me When’ (MP3) just blows me away. Makes me cry every time. The album is beautiful. A total success. It is like a warm embrace.” The track is the album's first single and also features Arin’s beautiful electric guitar work.

In her lyrics, Arin explores experiences where shadows and light converge and transformation is offered as a possibility. Whether autobiographical songs of love and longing, or third person waltzes and ballads (as in Patch of Land’s “Sweetly Breathe”), Arin’s inventiveness with language and melody hold court. “Songwriting for me is a process of distillation,” she says. “My aim is to repeatedly filter an idea and emotion to form an honest vehicle for sharing life’s poignancy, playfulness and mystery.”

Shunda K introduces UK rapper Tan on latest track from "The Most Wanted"

New single culled from Yo! Majesty leader’s debut solo record is her most explosive single to date.

“My Light” (feat. Tan) is the latest single from Shunda K’s solo album debut, “The Most Wanted”

+++

Shunda K In The Press

“…a route-one electro bludgeon…” – 10 Tracks You Have To Hear This Week – NME (UK)

“Razor sharp drums, old school synth stabs and the Florida rapper’s stylish, supercool vocal make this one more essential than a spacesuit on the moon.” – iDJ (UK)

“Go for it Shunda, save us all.” – Blues & Soul (UK)

“The Yo! Majesty goddess is going to make the underground so overground it will just be called ‘ground.’“ – Roctober

+++

Shunda K’s debut album The Most Wanted dropped this week with 20 tracks and a CD time constraint pushing 78 minutes of music recorded with producers and collaborators from all over the world.  One of these collaborators is female UK-based rapper, Tan.  The song is “My Light” (MP3) and is Shunda K’s most explosive and wholly accessible mainstream single yet. The track is another patented power-positive cut with Tan singing in the addictive chorus, “Got to find my own light, searching for some action, it’s a natural attraction, they got me looking for mine, searching for mind, have you seen my light…”

Next up, Shunda K will debut her contribution to the ongoing “It Gets Better” Project (itgetsbetter.org) started by famed syndicated sex columnist Dan Savage in the form of the video for The Most Wanted single “I’m Da Best” (feat. Shon B). Directed by Steven Andrew Garcia of The Masses (wearethemasses.com) who has recently shot clips for Mika Miko and Male Bonding among others, the clip is a controversial assault on Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church.  See stills from the set of the video HERE.

Shunda K’s debut solo album The Most Wanted arrives on the heels of two Shunda K mixtapes downloaded thousands of times each, US and Australian dates opening for electro superstar Peaches, a collab on the track and video for the Peaches song “Billionaire”, and the NME naming Shunda K to its “Cool List” and earmarking The Most Wanted’s first single “Here I Am To Save The World” as one of “10 Tracks You Need To Hear”. A two-week west coast tour with Oakland, California’s HOTTUB (facebook.com/hottubmusic) will be announced shortly.

About Batwings Catwings

Amidst the blood, cocaine, and Botox soaked tapestry of Los Angeles, the members of Batwings Catwings hail from all over the US and converge upon the wasteland of Southern California to give underground dwellers a reason to shake and sweat. Comprised of members from some of L.A.’s most distinctive DIY bands (TPF!, Puppy Dog, Luna Is Honey), Batwings Catwings is cutting a path for themselves straight through the high dollar hustle of Hollywood to the art galleries and punk houses that are known by only the most discerning ears.

Batwings Catwings is fronted by the tiny, yet fierce dance commander Dana Poblete, an everygirl with the ability to entrance audiences from Los Angeles to the hell mouths of Mexico’s border towns with her frenetic energy and deceptively powerful howl.  Backing her is guitarist and UCLA professor Pepper Glass, a master of the squelch who wields his axe with the devastating accuracy of his feared red correction pen.   On the drums is L.A. blogger Clay Johnson, who cut his teeth drumming for about every metal band on the northern Midwest’s arctic front.  The newest member, Josh Crampton rounds out the lineup on bass, diversifying the sound even further with his sexy funk and shoegaze influences.

January 11, 2011 signifies the release of Batwings Catwings’ first EP, “Peacock Collection”, released digitally by IndianGold Records.  Recorded at L.A.’s famous Infrasonic Studios by Daniel Haworth and engineered by Pete Lyman (No Age, Best Coast, Abe Vigoda), “Peacock Collection” is a totem of modernist punk – noisy as hell with a tinge of pop and a nod to the punk rock roots of the L.A. underground.
