The Tins In The Press

“This song off the band’s upcoming debut EP kicks off with a modern-day ‘Twilight Zone’ vibe that morphs into an extraordinarily moving seven-minute-long serenade. Hopefully this is a good indication of what the rest of the EP will have to offer.” – NME (UK) on “The Green Room” by The Tins

“Every so often music fans come across a young band that is far from amateur. They dazzle you from the start and make you wonder how they are not bigger. This is how I feel about a fantastic band from Buffalo, NY called The Tins.” – We All Want Someone To Shout For

The Tins are bloody fantastic! A three piece out of Buffalo who might just have wandered into our new favourite band category with ease.” – The Recommender (UK)

“That song, ‘The Green Room,’ doesn’t proceed into the room as if it’s embarrassed to be there, shyly introducing itself and then heading straight for the bar. Rather, it makes the sort of grand entrance that only the most self-aware can pull off...” – The Buffalo News

More About The Tins

Buffalo, New York-based band The Tins recently released its self-titled five-track debut EP via V2 Benelux, the arm of the influential label based in the Netherlands. It might be out of the ordinary to be discovered by a major label so far from home, but the situation has turned out well so far for the band.

“The Green Room,” (MP3) the first single from the Tins EP, has already gained the attention of the UK (and possibly the world’s) most influential music publication, the NME which called the track “extraordinarily moving”. The song is a seven-minute mini-epic that perfectly spotlights the cross section of Radiohead and Wilco that The Tins mine. Fans of pioneering artists such as Yo La Tengo and The Flaming Lips will find much to like about The Tins as well.

The band is now beginning to make its presence known in the states. The energetic stage show put on by Mike Santillo (keyboards, vocals), Adam Putzer (guitar, vocals), and Dave Muntner (drums) shows off the great chemistry these guys have with one another and is also reflected in their collaborative songwriting, multi-instrumentalism and the shared lead vocals of Santillo and Putzer. New fans in the US will be happy to hear that The Tins will play several shows during CMJ week. See below for US dates. Fans in Holland will have to wait just a little longer.

The Tins are available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“Bad shows are a dime a dozen. But it doesn’t get much worse than TV Buddhas’ recent gig-that-wasn’t in New Orleans.” – The Bad Penny

Tel Aviv’s TV Buddhas are punk in a way that is mostly overlooked by contemporary culture. They bring their own baggage and anxieties to the table, chop everything into pieces, and serve it up in the most basic way possible, baring their voices and their hearts. This fact in no more self-evident than in the video blog the band has been keeping of its first tour of the US. Filled with promoter no-shows, audience no-shows and sometimes personal morale no-shows, the posts are truly reflective of the title of this documentary in the making: “Band In The Modern World”.

In a world where rock and roll has completely changed its skin, TV Buddhas document the last remaining vices of a modern day hard working DIY band on the road in a commercial wasteland, a reality that doesn’t give a damn anymore about punk honesty or unknown bands writing heartfelt songs. Underneath the radars of big promoters, hipster publications, and hype driven music consumers, TV Buddhas move forward from one empty club to the other, from one financial flop to the next, documenting their wallets going slimmer, their sense of failure and missing out growing more and more impatient

The vlog shows pictures of a music scene in recession and its indifference to genuinely new things. An image of an indie band going deeper and deeper into itself in order to block out the sense of alienation it feels from the outside. It attempts to present a basic punk narrative that shows the other side of being in a garage band, the part no one shows, but is so vital to uncover.

More about TV Buddhas

TV Buddhas’ self-titled debut EP was recorded in Berlin in one hour using one mic and a basic tape machine in an attempt to make a spontaneous recording with almost no prior preparations. The band was seeking a way to achieve something raw, not by work on the mix, but rather by just going in and rushing the job. The result is a short record that is oozing with late seventies punk sensitivities and a lo-fi sound that is both gritty and powerful.

The EP was written out of the angst and pressure of being on tour year round. Consisting of brother and sister Uri and Mickey Triest, and Mickey’s husband Juval Haring, TV Buddhas has been playing 200 shows a year since they relocated from their home of Tel Aviv, Israel to Berlin, Germany in 2007. On constant tour, the band’s everyday life got lost and their privacy was invaded by the “cool” people they had avoided contact with through their teen years.

Not having any kind of domestic existence or place to call sanctuary, TV Buddhas turned to their music and put their frustration into words. They wrote about being too tired to face a show, too tired to go out during the very few times they were home, feeling awkward walking down the street in hip neighborhoods, not feeling at home or fitting anywhere besides their own heads, and feeling completely out of their element around other rock n’ roll bands.

The result of this is a unique punk rock record reflecting the image of a band of outsiders making a dirty sound that is honest, primal and full of feelings of impatience and alienation. The EP echoes the kind of discontentment typical of bands like The Wipers and a straightforward quality reminiscent of The Modern Lovers.

The song “Fun Girls” sung by the band’s drummer, Mickey Triest, is almost like a monologue, a testimonial of a private world, threatened by a vulgar mass of Polaroid glory girls. The EP’s cover is also worth mentioning, quoting the style of Raymond Pettibon, and the attitude of Black Flag, whose touring style and ethics have influenced bands worldwide, even reaching three disgruntled record shop workers in Israel who were just looking for a reason to quit their jobs and do something real.

What is soon to be a perennial fave like its scrumptious namesake? Well, it’s “Fruitcake”, the first single from The Superions’ new Christmas album, Destination... Christmas! The single has been released on all of your favorite digital retailers and now the video for the track has been premiered by one of our favorite sites, My Old Kentucky Blog. See MOKB’s coverage of the “Fruitcake” video HERE.

The “Fruitcake” video details the touching story of a fruitcake on the make. Out around the town looking for love, getting a makeover, cruising the cake case at the local supermarket and finally having that chance encounter with a fruitcake soul mate. The video was directed by B-52s front man Fred Schneider himself and is just the first of many videos to come from the Destination… Christmas! album.

Destination… Christmas! is The Superions’ upcoming holiday album to be released October 25th on Fanatic Records. With lyrics and vocals by Schneider and joined by Noah Brodie (keyboards and electronic drums) and Dan Marshall (programming), the record is destined to become a holiday classic for tuneful toddlers, snarky teens, and cool Moms and Dads everywhere.

About Peelander-Z

Peelander-Z, the Japanese Action Comic Punk Band based in New York City, has signed with Austin-based Chicken Ranch Records for the release of its new album P-TV-Z, a record the band calls the “ultimate happy fun kid friendly punk rock record.” Notoriously known for its crazed live performances, Peelander-Z will embark on a US tour this week that will take the band around the country through the end of November. See some example live footage courtesy of Brooklyn Vegan, including such gems as band member Peelander-Red performing while suspended upside-down from a club’s ceiling. Don’t try this at home – these are professionals!

P-TV-Z was recorded in Austin, Texas with producer Evil Elvis and engineers Bryan Nelson and Chico Jones at Ohms Studio. Peelander-Z brought out the cream of Austin’s indie and punk crop to guest on the album. Members of The Riverboat Gamblers, The Octopus Project, Foot Patrol, Atash, and Black Joe Lewis’ Honeybears horn section all make appearances. Peelander-Pink even takes a vocal turn on French pop influenced “Dial Ring Ring Phone Pho Phone”.

P-TV-Z closes with the wistful “Wasabi Man”, which is Peelander Z’s answer to Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home”. P-TV-Z comes packaged with a DVD featuring videos for “E-I-E-I-O”, a performance clip of “Go! Rio!”, and videos for “So Many Mike” and “Ninja High School” off of the band’s previous album P-Pop High School, plus tons of extras! Peelander-Z has appeared at major music festivals including Bonnaroo, CMJ and SXSW, in the pages of SPIN, The Fader, Alternative Press, Time Out New York and The Boston Herald, and played with artists such as Buckethead, The Vibrators, and Guitar Wolf.

The band has also been featured on TV programs like VH1’s “Best Week Ever” and Comedy Central’s “Upright Citizens Brigade” among others. At their live show, Peelander-Z guarantees intense audience participation and a chance to exercise. You’ll see the band in colorful costumes reminiscent of Japanese animation, though they describe their outfits as their skin. You’ll also see The Red Squid, human bowling and all around insanity. A rare occasion for the entire family to rock out and have a great time.

Columbus, Ohio’s Red Wanting Blue has released the whimsical video for its single “Where You Wanna Go”. The video has been a long labor of love for director Jenna Pace. Shooting locations included the City of New York, Coney Island, several locations in Connecticut, the Delaware Water Gap and Maryland. Pace did a month of scouting to find these locations searching in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Vermont, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio and Michigan to come up with the backwoods scenes, old-time amusement parks with carousels and “Alice In Wonderland”-type settings that make this clip so unique and memorable. “Where You Wanna Go” is a colorful and fantastical video that further illustrates an already visual song.

The clip comes along at the right time as Red Wanting Blue is beginning to get some well-deserved national attention after a decade-plus as a rust belt sensation. The band’s music is so sincere, hopeful and perseverant, many long time supporters have wondered what’s taken so long. Fans of Red Wanting Blue have long known and loyally followed the band’s must-see show and are well aware that no one seems to leave a Red Wanting Blue performance without feeling their power. Now’s the chance to see what the fuss is about as Red Wanting Blue follows-up up its last sold-out Mercury Lounge show in NYC with a special showcase on Sept. 21st, 2010 at 9PM.

If you’re new to Red Wanting Blue, a talented fan recently completed and posted a short mini-documentary with the co-operation of the band. Seen HERE, the clip takes you right into the Red Wanting Blue’s tour bus (a moving thrift store, essentially) and right on to the stage with Scott, Markus, Greg, Eric and Dean. For those wanting more of this, word is that the feature-length documentary on Red Wanting Blue’s long and unique story is nearing completion. “Never Enough: The Story of The Greatest Band You’ve Never Heard Of” is produced by Davenport Theatrical (Avenue Q, Will Ferrell’s You’re Welcome America) and is tagged on the company’s website thusly: “They have thousands of fans. But they’ve yet to get a record deal. And they’ve also yet to give up.” Wonder how this one will turn out???

Red Wanting Blue is available for interviews. Members of the media are invited to attend the Sept. 21st, 2010 Mercury Lounge performance. Contact Josh Bloom for more information.
