Columbus, Ohio-band Red Wanting Blue announced today that it will make its network television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman on July 18th. The upcoming appearance is a milestone for the band which continues non-stop touring behind its new album From The Vanishing Point (see dates below).   Red Wanting Blue also announced that it will follow-up its recent sold-out NYC show this past February with a headlining performance at City Winery on June 18th.  Tickets to the event are on sale now.

Red Wanting Blue will also perform at the Norman Music Festival as a main stage headliner with Portugal. The Man and Other Lives and has been added to the Summer Camp Music Festival featuring headliners Umphrey’s McGee and Jane’s Addiction, the 605 Summer Classic as direct support to Mason Jennings and to Ohio’s All Good Music Festival headlined by The Allman Brothers Band and The Flaming Lips.

In other Red Wanting Blue news, the band recently wrote and recorded the original song “Magic Man” for the end-title sequence of the documentary film “Unraveled” which made its theatrical debut in New York at the Village East Cinema and in Los Angeles at Laemmle this past Friday. Variety reports that the TV rights to the film have been acquired by Showtime and CNBC.

Told through stark cinematography and sharp animation, “Unraveled” chronicles the pre-sentencing home confinement of prominent Manhattan attorney Marc Dreier. Dreier, who was arrested just days prior to the arrest of Bernard Madoff, was caught conducting a massive Ponzi scheme that netted hundreds of millions of dollars from hedge funds. In the film, he candidly confesses his crimes and reveals his shocking deceptions.

Since the release of Red Wanting Blue’s latest album From The Vanishing Point in January, the band has seen a steady increase in attention being paid to the sound that band leader Scott Terry has been bringing to America for over a decade.  With an advance sell-out at the 1400-capacity House of Blues in Cleveland to a Top 10 debut on the Billboard “Heatseekers” chart, Red Wanting Blue’s story is a textbook case of local boys making good.

Scott Terry of Red Wanting Blue is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“...the group brought the low-ceilinged room to a sweat.” – New York Times

Phoebe Jean is a one girl band with an army of sound. Born and raised in Baltimore, loved and learned in Paris and New York, Phoebe creates masterful blend of classic club breaks, soulful funk grooves, and epic harmonic melodies.

“Day Is Gone” is the first single and video from the upcoming Phoebe Jean & The Air Force album Heartbreakers (and featured on the “Facts of Nature” EP out now). The track is an unexpectedly grimy number, raised on West Baltimore’s hyper-hyper beat patterns and thick, rutty synth bass.

The video for the song was directed by Phoebe Jean herself and features cinematography by Sienna Sheilds, choreography by Love, Grace O’ Neill and features the Shake Off Twinz who have also been seen with M.I.A. and Rye Rye.

Heartbreakers by Phoebe Jean & The Air Force will be released by Lentonia Records on June 12th, 2012.  In the meantime, Phoebe will be at home tending to her ‘77 Cadillac Seville.

Phoebe Jean is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

Mombi debuts animated video for “Time Goes” from critically praised “Wounded Beat” album.

Denver duo's spare atmospheric electro-folk song culls lyrics from 1972 Lynn Vanlandingham poem.

“A really appealing band with serious potential and talent, Mombi is the sound of a tear-soaked night that only makes you feel better…” – Popmatters

Released almost a year ago, The Wounded Beat by the Denver-based songwriting duo of Kael Smith and Matt Herron (known as Mombi – pronounced Mom-bee) is still gaining attention for its studied and accomplished mix of ambient folk and electronics.  Now the band has issued “Time Goes” as the latest single from the record, which is accompanied by an animated music video.

“Conceptually, the video for is about the circular patterns in nature,” explains Herron of the clip which was animated and directed by filmmaker Manuel Aragon. “Eventually, everything begins again and paper cutout animation helps convey this message of time passing slowly and quickly all at once.”

The lyrics to “Time Goes” have interesting and familiar origins for the band.  “The lyrics contain portions of a poem written by Kael’s grandfather Lynn Vanlandingham which appeared in a book he published in 1972 called ‘Alone I Wait.’ The song is essentially a collaboration between two different generations,” says Herron.

Recorded and mixed by Keith Kenniff (known for his ambient/electronic music under the name Helios and his post-classical piano music as Goldmund), The Wounded Beat is a warm and intimate listen, with just enough optimism lurking amidst its lonely sounds. The album is available now on Luxembourg’s Own Records.

Kael Smith and Matt Herron of Mombi are available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

Hailing from the Z area of Planet Peelander (but now based in New York City by way of Japan), action comic punk band Peelander–Z has announced a month-plus of tour dates in support of its upcoming new album Space Vacation, set for release April 10th on the Austin-based label Chicken Ranch Records.

The dates were revealed by the popular blog Brooklyn Vegan which also posted a series of photos documenting the insanity that attendees of a Peelander-Z show will get to be a part of.  Check out the coverage here: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2012/04/peelander-z_tou.html.

Comprised of color–coded band members Peelander–Yellow, Peelander–Red, Peelander–Green (and at various times Peelander–Pink and Peelander–Black), Peelander–Z made its greatest impact to date in 2011 with the greatest hits album Super DX Hitz, sell–out shows around the US and Canada, and a stint as the band all of the other bands had to see on last Summer’s Vans Warped Tour.

All of these good times can be heard on Space Vacation, which, for a band that already is known for having good times, sets the bar pretty high.  To see for yourself, check out “Star Bowling,” the first single and from Space Vacation here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGoFzkz3ZCY.

Peelander-Yellow of Peelander-Z is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“…part Bob Dylan, part New York trashy rock n’ roll…” – WXPN, Philadelphia

...music like that on 2012 will continue to hold up for generations to come. – This Is Books Music

Brooklyn’s Mike Pomranz, performing with a rotating group of band mates as World Blanket, has premiered a cover, or as the site terms it, a “polishing” of the Syd Barrett song “Let’s Split” via the popular cover songs website Cover Me.  The post can be seen here:  http://www.covermesongs.com/2012/03/world-blanket-polishes-unfinished-syd-barrett-demo-lets-split-cover-me-premiere.html.

“I’ve always been inspired to cover this song, not just because it’s one of my favorite Barrett tunes, but also because it’s completely unfinished,” says Pomranz. “It’s a single-take demo where he literally stops in the middle of the song, says, ‘Oh no,’ and then fumbles before finding his place.  It’s one of the purest examples of capturing an artist’s descent into madness on tape, but it’s also a catchy little tune.” Pomranz continues, saying, “In my 20s I wrote a song called ‘Syd Barrett’s Soul.’  The first line was ‘Syd Barrett’s soul rests on my mind.’ And it does rest on my mind, because, in a lot of ways, I wonder about my own soul too.”

Pomranz recorded his take on the Barrett track in late March and the timing was fortuitous. “My good friend Andrew Bulbrook, violinist for The Calder Quartet, happened to be crashing at my apartment, so it was a perfect coincidence that he was here to lay down the violin tracks.”

The Calder Quartet also appears on the new World Blanket album 2012 which will be released by Pomranz’s own No Applause label tomorrow, April 3rd. Tomorrow evening, World Blanket will perform an early show at The Mercury Lounge in NYC to celebrate the album’s release.  More details here: http://www.facebook.com/events/255338841227816.

In addition to Pomranz and The Calder Quartet, 2012 features Katherine Fong, a Julliard trained member of the Metropolitan Orchestra (she has also worked with everyone from John Mayer to Tony Bennett), bassist Dean Moore (formerly of Jive Records band Dirty Blonde) and drummer Jonathan Flax (also with Freedy Johnston).

2012 was recorded by Pete Min, the man behind the boards for the hit debut album by The Airborne Toxic Event. Also featured is the Calder Quartet which has previously contributed strings to The National, Vampire Weekend, Andrew WK, and many others. 2012 by World Blanket will be released on the band’s own No Applause Records label on April 3rd, 2012.  Mike Pomranz of World Blanket is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
