“Mallman’s ‘70s-redolent music could be huge...” – Pitchfork
“It’s a noir battlefield of car crashes and lightning strikes. It’s about being too sad for words,” Mark Mallman says of his new album Double Silhouette, set for release on October 9th. Dark themes not-withstanding, the album is led by an incredibly catchy single, the title track “Double Silhouette” which was recently premiered by American Songwriter and is available for free download now. Mallman will embark on a two-week tour in support of the album in mid-October, kicked off by a hometown record release show at the Ritz Theater in Minneapolis on October 13th.
Double Silhouette is Mallman’s latest example of drawing a line between insanity and genius. It’s a ritual that he has built a career on, and it has has earned him opening spots on stages with artists as diverse as Green Day, Cat Power and Guided By Voices to name just a few. Additionally, Mallman’s songs have found their way to the airwaves of MTV, VH1, NPR, and dozens of major motion picture trailers and video games. His work has been written about in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Time Out New York, etc., and Mallman is also a featured contributor to the “Music Theory for Dummies” series alongside Bob Moog, John Cage and Andrew Bird.
Despite this substantial and credible resume, Mallman has also been characterized throughout his career as a madman, though in actuality, he’s a mad genius. This fact is no better exemplified than in Mallman’s signature “Marathon” events, the latest of which took place in September and saw him performing a 150-hour-long song non-stop (even in his sleep!) from the back of a van traveling from NYC to LA. The event was covered by Wired, USA Today, NBC News 4 New York and many more.
Mark Mallman’s new album Double Silhouette will be released October 9th. The title track is streaming and available for download now. Mark Mallman is available for interviews. Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
