Columbus, Ohio-band Red Wanting Blue made its network television debut on the Late Show with David Letterman last week.  The appearance (see it here) is a milestone for the band as it continues non-stop touring behind the current album From The Vanishing Point released in January.

Red Wanting Blue will now embark on a five-week fall headlining tour in September. See below for dates. The band recently played a sold-out show at popular NYC venue City Winery. The full 90-minute-plus concert can be downloaded for free at: http://noisetrade.com/redwantingblue.

Since the release of From The Vanishing Point, Red Wanting Blue has seen a steady increase in attention being paid to the sound that band leader Scott Terry has been bringing to America for over a decade.  With an advance sell-out at the 1400-capacity House of Blues in Cleveland to a Top 10 debut on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, Red Wanting Blue’s story is a textbook case of local boys making good.

Scott Terry of Red Wanting Blue is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

 “E-603 just released a masterpiece of a mash-up album... It’s like ‘Where’s Waldo’ for your ears...” – Under The Rotunda

“Blah blah blah, just fucking download it. Best mashup artist out there.” – The Hidden Playlist

New Hampshire’s (hence the “603”) Ethan (“hence the “E”) Ward has been creating a nostalgic yet original blend of music made from samples as E-603 since 2002.   Emerging from the mashup scene that produced Girl Talk, The Hood Internet and others, Ward takes a more musical approach than his peers, including his own instrumentation in his unprecedented, superfast cut and paste production aesthetic.

Ward’s third album SMOKESHOW announces him as a master of the genre, as he utilizes samples from as many as fifteen songs at once and ultimately constructs some of the most elaborate electronic songs out there. To date, E-603’s free albums have been downloaded more than 50,000 times and tracks from SMOKESHOW have already racked up tens-of-thousands of plays prior to any promotion.

The album’s lead track “Bang Bang” will have you at hello, utilizing the recognizable opening of The Go-Go’s “We Got The Beat” to take you there. Incorporating more than 300 samples into its 45 minutes, SMOKESHOW is available for free download now at http://www.e-603.com.

Next up for Ward is an album of remixes, including work for his friends in Passion Pit and Pepper Rabbit and others for his favorite artists like Robyn and Miguel. Ward has also been producing his own wholly original, non-sample-based music that varies in content from Daft Punk-style French House to Southern-style Trap Hip-Hop slammers.

“Wild Abandon” is the first single from the upcoming “Beauty and Undertow” EP

+++

Austin by way of Brooklyn-based songwriter Chris McFarland will release the “Beauty and Undertow” EP, his sixth collection of “angry folk” songs on August 21st via the End Up label. The EP’s first single “Wild Abandon” is available for streaming and download now.

“Beauty and Undertow” is the realization of a long-held dream of McFarland’s to reunite the members of groundbreaking emo group Rainer Maria for the first time since that band’s break up in late 2006.

Kyle (Fischer, Rainer Maria guitarist) and I have been best friends for the last 23 years,” says McFarland. Bill (Kuehn, Rainer Maria drummer) has been one of my favorite drummers for many years and Caithlin (De Marrais, Rainer Maria vocalist) was on my last EP.” When it came time to plan this new record, McFarland says he “just had to approach them all about being on it with me.”

A true road warrior, McFarland can be found crisscrossing the United States several months of the year, wearing down his late-model Martin acoustic with his ceremonial self-eviscerations. McFarland will embark on a five-week tour of the US in late August to promote “Beauty and Undertow”. Dates to be announced shortly.

Chris McFarland is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.

“Who Is She?” is the latest single from the new Michael The Blind album “Are’s & Els”

+++

Are’s & Els not only showcases Michael the Blind's versatility—it’s a crash course on solid songcraft.” – Portland Mercury

“Some of the most engaging, energetic, and original material you’re likely to hear for quite some time. …destined to become a hidden classic.” – PopMatters

Portland’s Michael The Blind continues to draw attention to his latest album Are’s & Els which the The Onion’s A.V. Club recently recommended for those who enjoy the following: “Ragged Euro-folk; the moodier side of The Gaslight Anthem; drunken sing-alongs; parties that last about two hours too long; disillusionment.” Read the full article here.

A veteran performer who has been releasing records and traveling throughout the country for over a decade, Michael The Blind (real name Michael Gerard Levasseur) has come into his own with Are’s & Els, his first record to be recorded with a full band.

The album also features the Magik*Magik Orchestra (currently on tour with Death Cab For Cutie) and on the album’s current single “Who Is She?,” the record’s only appearance of a synth which accompanies a roaring guitar solo.

“I wrote ‘Who Is She?’ about a friend who always seemed to have a new lady that he would be trying to hide from everyone. He was so carefree about life in general.  Maybe I was a touch jealous,” Levasseur admits.

The video for “Sympathies,” a more somber tune on the album, has exclusively premiered at My Old Kentucky Blog here. The cast of “Sympathies” includes local New York-based artists, comedians and musicians including photographer Kelsey Bennett and her sister, actor Remy Bennett, both of whom happen to be granddaughters of singer Tony Bennett.

Michael The Blind is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
