Austin’s Steven Stubblefield has released a new two-song digital single under his Starlings, TN moniker to aid the victims of the tragic fire in Bastrop, Texas.  The song “Bastrop (These Dark Times)” is being sold by donation via Bandcamp with all proceeds scheduled to go to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts.

The song is coupled with the track “Can’t Do Nothin’” from the most recent Starlings, TN album How Dark It Is Before The Dawn.  The song was written in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on the eve of Hurricane Katrina as Stubblefield awaited the fate of his home, which ultimately suffered $12,000 in damage. After the storm, Stubblefield found personal recovery in the reconstruction, spending three years helping others through his work with the humanitarian organizations Samaritan’s Purse and the American Red Cross Hurricane Recovery program.

Once Stubblefield’s instruments were replaced and his hard drives restored, he started writing and recording again, eventually relocating to Austin, Texas to revitalize his music career.  When the Bastrop fire broke out, Stubblefield took inspiration from his own experiences with Katrina to again help victims of a natural disaster.

The result is “Bastrop (These Dark Times),” a beautiful song that is sure to evoke emotion and hopefully donations to this worthy cause, as well. All proceeds from sales of the song will be donated to the American Red Cross. Steve Stubblefield is available for interviews.  Contact Josh Bloom at Fanatic for more information.
