West Africa-born songstress Lachi appears on Oprah Radio, releases download of most stirring song to date.

Epic “Emo Children” stuns a sold-out Joe’s Pub crowd into pin-dropping silence; New album continues to wow the press.

“Emo Children” is the latest single from Lachi’s self-titled new album.

“Not since the days when Arrested Development sang about Tennessee …have we heard such positivity in music.” – Zaptown

“Her music is just as inspiring as her background. …a stirring album that features the manifesto single ‘We Can Fly.’ (MP3)” – The Onion

New York City-based singer and musician, Lachi, fresh off of a sold-out record release show at famed NYC venue Joe’s Pub recently made an appearance on Sirius/XM’s Oprah Radio channel. The sophisticated songstress was the guest of Derrick Ashong on his show The Derrick Ashong Experience. The two talked about Lachi’s new self-titled album which features her signature song “We Can Fly”. Watch the entire interview HERE.

Another song from Lachi is the powerful “Emo Children” (MP3) a song that never fails to stun a crowd into pin-dropping silence each time Lachi begins with her tender piano and the lines “I let my father down. I let my father hold me down.” It’s just one of many of Lachi’s perfect songs that speak to the insecurity and fear in us all. Never-the-less, the songs on Lachi are still about perseverance and rising above adversity.

Produced by Lachi herself, the album captures the West African-born songstress’ knack for blending hauntingly honest and personal lyrics with breezy, appealing melodies. Lachi’s alluring vocals are complemented by her command of the piano. “Since I was four, my piano has been my escape. I felt invisible at school, but when I came home, I’d line all of my dolls up put on these passionate, therapeutic performances,” Lachi explains.

The album is a long-awaited release from Lachi, who has been performing throughout the Northeast and New York City since 2007, when she started playing at open mics. Legally blind and supported by blind band members, Lachi’s sociopolitical and poignant lyrics are often inspired by the stigmas of her visual impairment. Lachi also works to promote and further the careers of other blind musicians in the New York City area. Lachi has taken it upon herself to uncover and bring together some of the finest talent New York City’s blind community has to offer.
