More about The New Loud and “Wrapped In Plastic”

‘Wrapped in Plastic’ is a mind virus ready to creep into the bedrooms of teenage girls all over the western world unsuspected by their mothers and fathers.” – Monochrom (Austria)

“Wrapped In Plastic” by The New Loud is a nod to the seminal 1990 David Lynch TV series, Twin Peaks,” as told from the perspective of the murdered icon, Laura Palmer. “Wrapped In Plastic” emulates the cloaked normalcy and edgy atmosphere of the series by tweaking a pop song template, adding change-ups in time signature and dissonant harmonic keyboard hooks. Undercurrents climax when a foreboding noise pad in the bridge overtakes the mix for a second before being tucked neatly back, just in time for the last chorus.

“Wrapped In Plastic” is the second single from The New Loud’s upcoming LP, Measures Melt due June 8th. The album was produced and recorded by band member Shane Olivo and Mixed by Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World, Rilo Kiley, Drive Like Jehu). Like all New Loud tracks it is available directly from the band as a Radiohead-style pick-your-price here: http://thenewloud.bandcamp.com.

The New Loud is a new wave/electro/punk band from the working-class Midwestern city of Milwaukee, WI.

“...a band of surpassing intensity.” - Andy Downing, Chicago Tribune

“A gleefully tuneful, ceaselessly energetic and at times willfully naïve indie-pop outfit.” - Jim DeRogatis, Chicago Sun-Times

“A knack for snappy indie-pop but a penchant for spacier art-rock along the lines of Kid A… the balancing act they play between the two is pretty stellar” - MissionFreak.com

About CAW! CAW!

CAW! CAW! are four friends from a nerdy high school on the north side of Chicago, and nearly a decade of playing together in attics, basements and weird spots all over the country has honed their sound like water over rock.

Booking their own way through months of touring since the release of 2008’s Wait Outside EP, the boys have had ample time to hammer out their musical differences and have finally found a sweet and uncommon sense of unity, striking a delicate balance between saccharine harmonies and lacerating screams, tangles of crusty noise and sun-soaked melodies.

Their debut LP, Bummer Palace, was recorded in the heart of June in Los Angeles
and mixed seven months later in the depths of a Chicago winter. It’s a shimmering and sweaty record that tosses and turns between propulsive, shivering grooves, hailstorms of impudent guitar orchestration and viscous, cinematic dream sequences; all guided by the crystalline voice of a frightened boy, shouting his hopeless tale of disillusionment and despair at a world of cold shoulders.

About GiTAr

“One of the most complete and scathing commentaries on the nonsensical detritus that passes for pop culture in this country.” Pirate Cat Radio

Scheduled for release on June 8th, 2010 by Seeland Records, the label owned by legendary culture-jammers, Negativland, GiTAr’s “STUFFED” has the potential to make you more than you are without it. GiTAr members Ellipse Elkshow and I Cut People were raised in Evansville, Indiana, home to major polluters, factories, cancer statistics, pharmaceutical manufacturing and a test town for new products cooked up by various fast food giants.

In that cold war, post genocide, post slavery, post Vietnam climate of arrogance, ignorance and inter-cultural conflict, the Media (that’s YOU!) became the loudest voice on the planet. Television, movies, radio, theater, newspapers, magazines, books, records, CDs, billboards, followed by the internet, gave rise to a gruesome and unimaginably vast ocean of violently conflicting information, ideas and communications.

One dark day in 2006 something snapped and the two childhood friends put powdered sugar on their noses, grabbed a guitar and decided to begin the most important balls-out sonic and visual assault that Civilization has ever freaking encountered – under the guise of GiTAr, no less. Eventually they both left the death trap and moved to the West Coast, where they began collaborating on an endless barrage of visual, sonic and improvisational projects.

There is love and hate encapsulated in GiTAr’s work, as well as social satire and an astute condensation of the brutal irony of our social, political and physical existence. To be smarter than the Experts, hipper than the Hippest Hipster, fantastically famous, rolling in money and undeniably sextractive, obviously, you’ll need this album. “STUFFED,” by GiTAr; It comes in a compact disc, with FREE face-eating, mind-blowing artwork by GiTAr.

Charlottesville, Virgina’s Trees on Fire lends support to Appalachian Voices via debut album.

Organica takes listeners from the tops of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the buzzing bayous of the bottom-land.

About Trees on Fire and Organica:

Trees on Fire is an eco-band out of Virginia that has taken environmental action through its music. In particular, the band supports two organizations dedicated to preserving our invaluable natural landscapes: Atchafalaya Basinkeeper (www.basinkeeper.org) and Appalachian Voices (www.appvoices.org). These dynamic non-profit groups work every day to keep our mountains from being blasted into stream-clogging rubble and our cypress trees from ending up as mulch.

Trees on Fire will pledge 5% of proceeds of the sale of its debut album Organica to these organizations. Additionally, Trees on Fire has raised awareness and funds for a number of other organizations over its four years in existence, including Sierra Club, Building Goodness Foundation, Climate Ride, Chesapeake Climate Action Network and others. The band was voted “Greenest Regional Band” by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine and had a song featured on Sierra Club’s national website earlier this year.

Organica, takes listeners from the heights of the ancient Blue Ridge Mountains to the buzzing swamps and bayous of the bottom-land. Formed in 2005 amidst these ancient hills, Trees on Fire has developed a varied sound that includes reggae, rock, electronic, klezmer, and funk. Organica was produced by Rob Evans (Dave Matthews Band, Tim Reynolds Trio) and Eric Heigle and recorded at Haunted Hollow Studios and Dockside Studios (BB King, Taj Mahal, Dr. John, Mark Knopfler, Leon Russell, Sonny Landreth.) The exciting original music captured on the album is only a part of the legacy the group hopes to leave behind.

The Appalachian Voices organization reminds us that the true cost of energy generated by coal acquired from the destructive practice of mountaintop removal mining dwarfs the amount we pay each month in our electric bills. Damage to the environment and public health are devastating, permanent, and well documented. Trees on Fire first became aware of and decided to become involved with the Atchafalaya Basinkeeper organization during its first trip to Louisiana which included a jaw-dropping boat tour of the Atchafalaya Basin. Huge eerily hollow cypress stumps told the sad story of logging for lumber and mulch reminding that watchful eyes are still needed to ensure the safety of America’s largest contiguous bottomland hardwood forest.

About Bellflur and “asleep.asleep.”

Bellflur, a long-time presence in Washington, DC scene, has been acclaimed for years for its fierce stage performance and knack for making odd musical tendencies seem comprehensible to listeners of all genres. The band’s upcoming album “asleep.asleep.” is a profound step forward for the band, demonstrating more controlled grandness and accessibility without being “accessible.”

“asleep.asleep.” was produced and recorded by Bellflur over the course of two and a half years and introduces a more vocal and dynamically challenging side of the band, with far more substantive instrumentation and orchestration than heard previously. Bellflur enlisted several contributors from fellow DC acts to help realize this vision including members of Deleted Scenes, Exit Clov, Pree, Le Loup, and Meredith Bragg. Already, songs from the record have garnered comparisons to acts such as TV on the Radio, Sigur Ros, and Battles – comparisons the band finds fitting.

Additionally, Bellflur has been likened to everything from Radiohead to a Salvador Dali painting, but whatever the comparison, the band has progressed by sculpting something unique and unapologetic. With a growing chatter about the Bellflur’s symphonic live shows and the press accolades already coming in for its new album, Bellflur has managed to push past its self-proclaimed shyness and closer to national recognition. “asleep.asleep.” will be self-released by the band’s own Sad Sewer Alligator label on June 8, 2010, with distribution by Baltimore-based Morphius Distribution.

Bellflur In The Press

“Vivid yet gentle, Bellflur’s music evokes sensations of dreaming, floating and the passage of time.” – Mark Jenkins, The Washington Post

“Absolutely unique, absolutely big, absolutely captivating. They’re a truly art-drenched ensemble...” – Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover

Bellflur helps define a new, dreamier Washington D.C. indie-rock sound” – Listen, Dammit!

“...atmospheric seems like the best adjective to describe a band [such as Bellflur], but they’ve found a way to reinterpret ‘The Bends’ so that it fills every nook of a room...” – DCist

Midnight Spin plays The Deli’s “Best of NYC” fest tomorrow, May 13th at Public Assembly, Brooklyn! 9PM SHARP!

It’s a big week in the land of Midnight Spin – the band recently won the Deli Magazine’s 2009 Best Emerging Artist poll and now will play the magazine’s 5th Annual “Best of NYC” fest tomorrow, May 13th, 2010 at Public Assembly in Brooklyn at 9PM sharp. The band reminds us that there will be cheap beer, easy guys/girls, hipster fashions, unreleased songs, new guitar pedals, magazine writers and music critics in the house!

Midnight Spin is riding high on the success of the band’s video and single “In The Air (Revival)” which was recently licensed to the MTV2/Nickelodeon series “Shreducation.” The clip for the single is a top notch production and these production values will make it into the band’s next clip too – this time for the track “Trigger Finger Itch” from the band’s Through The Mojo Wire EP produced by Nic Hard (The Bravery). The band will be working with a great team from Comedy Central Studios and reportedly will be playing cereal mascots!

The Deli Magazine on Midnight Spin

After multiple rounds of categorizing, voting, narrowing down, and counting, Brooklyn based Midnight Spin landed at the top of The Deli’s “New York’s Best Emerging Artist of 2009 Fans’ Poll.” Since 2008, these guys have been playing incessantly in NYC, making headway at college campuses across the country, and leaving lasting impressions at last year’s CMJ Marathon. Their album Through The Mojo Wire, resembles the type of record that would skip the indie scene and head straight for the ‘Top 40s.’ However, unsigned and NY grown, they have benefited from the necessary acknowledgement by the neighborhood, a feel-good step in any emerging band’s career.”
